Is it possible to move the vendor exhibit hall onto the beach?
With who?
By themselves—what could go wrong? ![]()
But if my kids were of that age, my wife would’ve been out there with them. She comes to these things but doesn’t go to sessions. She’s likely to be a beach bum at this migration until the evening events.
Yes, you’re def too young.
Oh wait, you were talking about your kids?
Once upon a time, we ran a specific “Camp COPA” for kids over a certain age. It was loads of fun, but also necessarily very volunteer intensive and the COPA members who ran it own kids “aged out.”
It would be nice if the Migration Committee (Is that still a thing? Never hear a peep from the organizers anymore) might see if there’s renewed interest.
Best regards,
Age is a frame of mind, my friend ….
I’m the same age, if not a little younger ![]()
This is what I have done most years. We brought the kids to Kansas City, but we have family there that could watch them for the Night events.
It works out for us, we use the week(I get there Tuesday, for prep) as a retreat from the kids. Add to that I am “working” the event most of the time, it doesn’t make sense for my kids to be there.
We looked into it for Migration 2020 2021/2022 and based on registration demographics, we opted not to do it.
Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans did not lend itself to be kid friendly… while never discouraged, we were not going to specifically accommodate.
With Scottsdale, and Amelia island, it’s a bit different.
Resorts were slow to bring back their own kids clubs and even spas…and we did not want to burden the volunteers additionally.
If there is interest this year… please let us know and we can see what we make happen.. it is very volunteer heavy and/or expensive.
Regarding the Migration Committee:
We are still around… albeit in a planned reduced capacity.
With @ethannarber on staff and a very good partnership with an event planing company that @bmyers1 help establish, we have reduced the workload of the volunteer committee as planned.
I am still chair of that committee for the board officially, after @hanstb served in the role for a few years as cochair while I was COPA president.
That said I am looking to pass the reins to someone else after 7/8 years of doing it. @dbeary is being brought into the fold for this roll, and will take over for Migration 2026, this transition will be much easier with Ethan and Chris(event planner) doing the majority of work, and I don’t plan on falling off the face of the earth.![]()
Thanks for the update on how things work now. The use of an organizer was discussed over the years, both when I was involved with Migration and later when I was President. The new system, espcially with Ethan’s great help from within COPA, has obviosuly turned out splendidly!
I recall when we went to Migration at Amelia Island last time, Omni had a ‘kid’ camp but it was closed for the season. We’ll have our 10 year old with us this year, but that sounds like only 3 kids so far..
Yo, this Migration is Thursday October 9 through Sunday October 12.
In another thread I was attempting to cool down the dumpster fire political heat and redirect it to Migrations, so brought up 2026. Dave St. Clair shared an image that indicated that the 2026 Migration is in San Antonio Texas. Cool. But indicated it was September 16 - September 19, 2026. I went to log it into my calendar and it shows those dates being a Weds through Saturday. Just want to confirm that is correct before I book it out. And as it’s been a few years since I was at a Migration, is the first day typically a cocktail mixer and not seminars, accounting for folks flying in?
Thanks.
Yes, I realize this post is technically a thread de-rail, but that is one of my skills on COPA and in life in general.
I’m just a lowly board member. I pulled the info from the COPA events sections. ![]()
And I’m just a lowly COPA pleb member!
It will be the normal Thursday fly in and Thursday night cocktail and full day event Friday & Saturday, and Sunday departures, as normal.
@ethannarber can you update the dates…
My family joined for the weekend portion of the 2024 Migration in Scottsdale, but there was not really much for my 7-year old twin boys to do at the event other than enjoy the lazy river and be fascinated with the rattlesnake in the lobby at Kierland. My wife attended the Saturday night dinner with me and socialized with Mr/Mrs Glackin (though she has previously done the PIC course).
50/50 on bringing the kids to Migration this year (and will wait to see what others decide) but agree it would be a plus if they had some options to engage them (they also happen to have fall break that same weekend). If @jglackin makes it, I understand he has offered to entertain any kids that attend for the weekend — he and one of my kiddos were sharing some vegan eats at OSH last weekend.
All new streamlined Partner course this year. @megan and I will be presiding.
I have some faint recollections of some military unit or Coast Guard operating a temporary tower for those days of the migration. Is that happening this year? I also think I saw something about some Pilot taking off with no announcement on the CTAF. With Cirrus jocks you never know ![]()
Yes, in 2022 the airport did have a temporary tower in operation for Migration. But, there will not be a temporary tower this time around… the airport was unable to coordinate that effort again this year (not just for our event, but for essentially all large fly-in events they’ve had this year at FHB).
We’ll post more information on that soon with the Migration NOTAM that we always send out.
As for the FBO information and PPR forms to fill out prior to arriving at the airport - we are working out some final details on that with Bent Wing as we speak, and we’ll post the PPR information on the forums, and also send out to anyone who has registered so far and chose the “Flying in” option during registration.
If you haven’t registered yet, or don’t know if you’re flying in but still want to receive the PPR form and FBO information when we have it, please email me at Ethan@CirrusPilots.org.
Thanks!
Thanks @ethannarber I am flying in, what is PPR?
Prior Permission Requirede (PPR) Form - basically just filling out general info (Name, Aircraft Type, Registration, credit card etc.) so they have all information on file prior to everyone arriving.
Will help prevent a backlog and line of people at the desk taking information one by one. They can just have all the info prior, and fuel planes and charge with that card on file in the background while the event is going on.
A win-win for everyone to keep things efficient!
