COPA Migration 2025 - Omni Amelia Island Resort - Continuing Thread

The best I can do is a “maybe.” With my mother-in-law‘s precarious health condition, I have to play everything by ear. If I come, it will be somewhat last minute.

Hmm, my gut reaction is to wait a year. The whole flying thing may be too new at this stage and I think (COPA correct me if I’m wrong) most of the partners attending Migration have more time/familiarity. Lots of the anxieties for new passengers (eg, plane’s behavior with flap changes, turbulence, crabbing on cross wind landings) go away with experience. Discussing parachute-pull scenarios may be premature.

That said, Migration is a great chance to meet other interesting right-seaters and hear about their adventures. Magic carpet adventures are what it’s all about, and swapping stories is inspiring.

Hope that helps.

I think the opposite. I think bringing her to Migration and going to a PIC class, being around other non pilot spouses, and getting encouragement from the spouses and the COPA community, would be a great thing. My wife’s desire to go flying, ease of mind, and interest in the Cirrus went up significantly after I took her to Migration.

While I enjoy the daily sessions, the social side is what really made my wife and I want to go back. Don’t forget the COPA Cabana and Saturday banquet. Plenty of time to meet other COPA members in the evenings and make new friends. I would recommend staying at the hotel.

Agreed. Thinking back to our first 172 flight together, the COPA world would have been (speculating) overwhelming and intimidating to my spouse. But two years later, not so, quite the opposite. Depends on the person and experience I guess, YMMV.

Any one know if Fernandina’s airport is charging a Landing/Overnight fee for COPA Migration?

Kevin, Celeste and I are planning to golf Amelia island. I am working on arrangements currently.

Aron,

I don’t have the details for this year, hopefully @ethannarber will chime in.

When Migration was last held at Amelia Island (2022), Bent Wing charged a negotiated rate of $22/night for SR20/22s, and $75/night for the VJ.

Do we need to reserve a slot in advance?

There was a PPR scheme in place in 2022, a simple form to let the FBO know you were coming and provide advance information.

John, are you planning on playing on Thursday?

Looking forward to playing :in_hole:
What’s our tee time?

Hi Aron,

Sorry I didn’t see this message! The short answer is yes, there will be. The airport has not gotten back to me quite yet with the confirmed rates and PPR forms.

Once I have that information, I will get it out to everyone as quick as I can, and people can begin submitting their PPRs for the airport. Will likely be a forums post as well as an email blast.

Thanks!

Ethan

Yes, we plan to go!

Yes, my wife and I will fly in on Wednesday and golf Thursday. Looking at The Golf Club of Amelia Island since it has a reciprocal Concert Golf relationship with our home club.

Can anyone with Migration experience comment on the kid friendliness of the event/experience? Looks like the resort has some pretty attractive pools, etc for the kids…but if my wife wants to do the PIC course, there’s dinners, etc…probably not that conducive to bringing our girls (11 and 7) to the event, is it?

Unless I fly one of the grandmas down commercially to spend time with them while we do our thing….:thinking::thinking:

While I think everybody in COPA is super friendly (well aside from a few people anyway), it is an “older” crowd. I think the girls would be bored to tears at any of the COPA events.

That was my concern as well. Fully understand that at the age of 42, I’m on the younger edge of the age curve in this group…just wasn’t sure if there was a subset within COPA that is similar and brings their family.

I’ll either fly Grandma down separately or just use it as getaway for my wife and I.

Maybe there is now. My last migration was a few years ago. Still not sure what kids would be able to do though. Maybe hang out at the pool and Dennis can watch them.

Amelia Island has a very nice beach — I know my kids would’ve been on the beach all day!
