Migration 2023 Kansas City

Too bad. I remember touring the Connie with one of the guys restoring it at the museum. My mom was one of the first TWA stewardesses to work on the plane. Any idea what they did with the collection?

No. Last time I was in MKC (a few years ago) the Connie and a Martin 404 were still in the hangar.

The WW1 museum is awesome. If you’re a history buff or military enthusiast don’t miss it. A few snaps from my last visit. If you want to do justice to the exhibits plan at least half a day.

Truman was a Gunnery Captain as I recall. Did you actually serve with him? :upside_down_face:

Was planning to fly tomorrow morning from my home base of KJYO to KLXT with my wife. Onshore flow, marine layer from the east, an inversion keeping everything down, low ceilings, high cloud tops, high relative humidity, chance of thunderstorms along my path, I decided the risks were too high especially with my wife coming along. Booked United and looking forward to our first migration.

If I was flying alone I’d be going, getting some real IFR time and trusting ATC to vector me around storms. I have done this trip to KC area twice before solo. Did I do the right thing? I would appreciate any comments on my decision making.

Yes

Anytime you are not comfortable it’s best to either 1) cancel or 2) get a more experienced pilot who is comfortable with the conditions to ride along so you can gain experience. But the rule of thumb is that if you’re not comfortable and you have not clearly thought out all the possible outs if you run into problems, you are better off cancelling.

Sadly I won’t make it this year but I did notice that this weekend is also the American Royal World Series of Barbecue. Top barbecue purveyors in the country will be present.

Regrettably I will miss Migration this week for the first time in 10 years. I’m speaking today at the California Association of Business Brokers in Oakland and they had the audacity not to do a date conflict check with COPA.

Cirrii were flowing into Downtown pretty quickly by around 2:00 PM, when I arrived. Someone trying to do pattern work asked Tower “Is there some sort of Cirrus fly-in or something?”

My wife and I immensely enjoyed our first migration. Thanks to the amazing volunteer leaders and staff for organizing the event. Great to meet and make new aviator friends.

We are staying over till mid week for “work”. A few more KC pictures.

OK, I thought those doors were in Florence. You know, the Baptistery.
