Migration 13 website(s) are alive!

Hi, Daniel!

There is no formal (as in written) process for selecting speakers. What happens each year is that the Chairman and Coordinator in charge of speakers and seminars spend some time chatting very early in the planning process, usually by phone. (All Coordinators are selected by the Migration Chairman and most volunteer for more than one year … thankfully!) This year’s Coordinators are:

Of course, this year’s Speaker/Seminar Coordinator is David Schwietert, a long-time COPA member. David replaced Jerry Seckler this year; Jerry is off travelling to exotic places and couldn’t dedicate the time to Migration as he has for so many years.

Early in our conversation, David and I decided on an ADS-B topical focus for some of the seminars since that will be a necessary expense/upgrade for most of our fleet in the near future. Of course, the seminars aren’t entirely about ADS-B, and we have a lot of other great topics and speakers. Those topics/speakers generally come from the Coordinator’s fertile mind. It’s his area of responsibility, and I try to give him the space to construct the overall program. That said, if I (as Chairman) have received speaking requests from the previous year, I convey them to David. Usually, those requests come in the form of an email that I save in one of my many Gmail Migration folders - currently numbering 31 for M13 and holding…

This year, David and I have decided to simply put a spreadsheet in the Google Drive folder for Migration and capture future requests/ideas that way. Of course, both David and I know that you’d be a great seminar speaker for Migration. Frankly, I don’t know why your name didn’t happen to come to mind… [:S] That said, you’ve been entered into our “tickle” file for next year.

Thanks!

Hi, Scott!

LOL. Petitions aren’t really necessary. [;)] I’ve put Daniel on the list of potential speakers for next year.

Craig

Don,

It was as I expected - a right-hand/left-hand issue. That said, here’s how to get a room upgrade:

  • Book a regular room at the COPA discounted price - on-line or via group reservations, it makes no difference.
  • If you want an upgrade, call the regular hotel phone line (972-386-6000) and ask for In-House Reservations. Tell them you want to upgrade your room. They will provide the upgrade based on what unallocated rooms are available. You’ll pay the normal hotel price for a room of upgraded quality.
I’ll have some explanatory text put on our registration website for all to see.

Thanks for the question!

Craig

Can I get an upgrade like last year?

Note: This is a “before” picture, in order to protect the innocent of what the room looked like, "after.

NOTE2; This is the Bill Clinton Oval Office look-alike room. The room has since been converted back to the Oval office as seen on TV

Craig,

Are you sure you want to upgrade Dennis? I’m told this pretty sums up the last time he had one of those:

Ya gotta watch those Navy pilots. Give em a little shore leave and… [:O]

Craig

WT? It’s not just pilots. The Navy is proud of it’s drinking tradition. In the days gone by, all sailors were given a ration of grog on a daily basis. In fact the U.S. Navy is the only military branch to reference beer drinking in its official song.

Dennis,

Do you really want to drift this thread discussion to Service Rivalry?

Actually, there really is no competition.

Anyhow, it’s Andy’s fault, but it does bump the thread after all.

Agreed. Air Force pilots fly tens of thousands of feet high than Navy pilots. They also fly Mach 1 or 2 faster. The Navy has some really low and slow pilots:

Naval aviators, on the other hand, are almost as good as Air Force pilots.

Thanks, Craig. I clearly didn’t know the procedure. Appreciate your help.

Don

AF pilots have to fly high. That’s the only place the feel safe. And the have to fly fast. It’s their “get out of town fast” approach to flying missions.

Don. Please don’t distract us from being off-topic by dragging us back on-subject.

No worries! CU at Migration. [Y]

Craig

Dennis:

Where did you get that picture of Gordon’s cat?

Don

That’s not Gordon’s cat.

It’s Gordon.

Ok, If Dennis and others are done with thread drift. I have a simple question: Why with over 3800 members are only 45 members registered for migration 13?

There is a $200 dollar great jacket included at cost. The information that everyone on this forum has been asking about ADS-B will be answered. The best of the best will be speaking. And the best of All, James and Deb Fallows will give a banquet talk on how Great America is that they have seen in their Cirrus travels.

There are over 400 members within 400 miles of KADS. I don’t get it. Why so few people have registered. You can buy insurance if you are not completely clear of your time. The price goes up substantially after Jul 28, as the Jackets have to be ordered 6 weeks out to get the GREAT price.

I would really like to know why YOU are not registered for Migration?

And Dennis, You say you have over 400 people following your site on migration. Are they ever going to register?

John:

You know as well as anyone. We register at the last second. It’s tradition!

Don

I wouldn’t use 400 miles as a good yardstick. How many members are within 1500 miles? That would be the one-day, one fuel stop range of any bird in our fleet.

Even my 56 gallon SR20 goes 750 miles (60% power, 8.0 gph LOP) [H]

I’m already to go… a) Registered; b) Hotel booked; c) Bags packed; d) PowerPoint Presentation done! I’ll be speaking on “Top Ten Legal Mistakes Owners Make with Aircraft Insurance”.

For those who miss M13, I’ll be doing a webinar on this same subject for a flat rate of $995 per participant. Really, M13 is a better deal, so register now !!!
