M15 or M16 Location

Nasser and I just had a meeting at the Omni, it was an awesome hotel and location was great. Three airports all about the same distance. Nashville, Tune and Smyrna.

The Omni is very nice. Therein lies the problem.

With the economy doing well, convention activity has increased significantly, and popular hotels like the Omni are cashing in on it. A convention of the size and scope of Migration will not have the minimum number of room/nights at the Omni, depending on how much convention space you will need.

Nashville sounds like a great town, and could be very popular with the spouses (a major consideration). I’m sure there are other nice venues that could and would accommodate COPA.

Our meeting was about 100 people, they took great care of us, even though there was a huge lumber homebuilding thing there too. Everybody knows how much money that group has!!! They all fly Eclipse Jets, or mustangs.

What’s the latest on M15?

Oh, it’s happening… and it’s gonna be good.

M15 is in Nashville. September 14, 15 and 16. Hope to see you there.

I will be there !! Nashville is a perfect location. Unfortunately we will have to wait about a year.

Thanks for removing the conflict with TailHook! Us Navy guys are real excited about the prospect of atttending both.

much better dates! My wife is excited about this city!

Announcement right around the corner! We can say that it’s in Nashville, 9/14/17-9/17/17!

And overlaying it on the Reno Air Races.

Wow. For the first time ever (been a member since the SR20.org days), the migration date is currently not in conflict on my calendar. I may make it. And I love Nashville.

Put it on the calendar now and make it a priority! Migrations is awesome. It’s a chance to meet all the people that you see here on the forums. Turns out, everyone is pretty awesome!!

See you in 326 days (But who’s counting?) [:P]

John, several great places in the Bahamas.

Savannah ROCKS !!

Where will M16 be? I’m trying to book a hotel for Nashville and it’s nearly impossible to find a place near the resort. Both of the hotels with room blocks are sold out. Doesn’t make for happy campers :frowning:

If the location for M15 was only chosen in October of last year, that’s not enough time to get a big enough room block. Planning for a moderately large conference - at least as far as location and hotel contracts - needs to be done sometimes 2-3 years or more out for popular dates and locations.

So, where will M16 (and M17, M18) be?

Dustin,

I’m not involved but you bring up some good thoughts.

The Migration team is looking for some planning expertise HERE

Thanks Tony. Just read the thread and emailed Roger.

Dustin,

Of course we are very sorry for that. But, just for complete transparency the availability of rooms is not related to the decision date.We are indeed trying to nail down the next 2 years now.

We signed a contract that had favorable rates and guaranteed rooms. But we were on the hook for filling it to at least a 80% level. We picked a number based on past migrations sizes and added a little for location. Even that was a significant commitment and had us nervous. COPA still has to be wary of costs and these decisions if done in a cavalier manner could cost us a lot of money.

At this point M15 is looking to be larger than we had imagined (it may well be a record attendance). When that was appearing that way a couple of months ago we did an addendum to the number of rooms and added quite a few room nights. We are now selling out of those, particularly for Thursday night. We think that may be a large group that has not left yet.

We continue to look for rooms, a few were found recently. But it is now a little late.

Folks, we have 28 Thursday night rooms and over 50 Friday and Saturday night rooms still available at the block rate ($179 plus tax and resort fee). So there are still rooms left!
