I’d be very interested to hear what the experiences of the early SR20 owners has been with insuring their new aircraft. Are the premiums higher than the service ceiling?
Many thanks from Position #141.

My insurance with USAIG for the SR20 is the same as it would be for a similarly valued Cessna 182.
Very good for a newly certified aircraft.
The pilot restrictions are factory training and ten hours in model.
Few pilots other than SR20 owners have that.
This disqualifies my instructor who has over 2000 hours total time in over 40 models including 2 hours in N202CD and a checkout signoff by a factory test pilot.
Another insurer required 500 hours total time and cost 20% more, this was not acceptable since I wanted my brother with 250 hours to be able to fly the plane.
I’m hoping that when there are more planes out there, more insurance companies will be writing policies for it and the competition will improve rates and restrictions.
Two years from now the rates will be based on actual claims experience so be careful for my sake if not your own.

How much is that?
