For information on FADEC see www.fadec.com . The Cirrus is not on the list of STC’s underway. I sent them an email asking when the Cirrus would be available. No answer yet. If enough of us ask maybe Cirrue will move higher on the list. It is obvious that they are going for volume with the Cessna 172 being one of the first to be certified.
I visit the fadec.com site regularly. I find the information on it rather disappointing. Then again, maybe it’s the lack of breaking news that I find disappointing. IÂ’ve been following FADEC developments ever since they first announced it at Oshkosh, what seems like a decade ago. (Admittedly, it hasnÂ’t been that long).
An Aerosance employee told me that the next engine to be approved after the IO-240 would be the IO-550. It makes sense to me that they bring the system into the market as an OEM product, and the IO-550 is used in a fair amount of new planes. So it will probably be offered on the SR22 before the SR20.

They do not even have the Cirrus listed on their STC list. Some of the others show expected approval as “late 2001”. That would indicate that any aircraft not on the list now might not make it until sometime in 2002.

I spoke with someone at FADEC about 2 months ago, who told me they are working with Cirrus to get the IO-550 FADEC approved. They said it should be available late this year.
