At Ms. Doughtery’s recommendation we stayed at the Hawthorne Suites and enjoyed it very much. They had a happy-hour (more like a “kinda glad” hour but the beer WAS free) and very clean rooms. Great restaurants are within walking distance in October, or snowshoeing distance if it’s January. They had a Cirrus rate of around $95/night for the summer high season. 218-727-4663. The down side was a $10.00 cab ride to get to the airport from the hotel. Some of the cabbies had teeth.aa
