the sr20 buying process, tco, etc

so i’m new to this whole aviation gig, but i’ve

got the fever. i’m still getting my private pilot

license, but the idea of owning one of these

amazing planes is intriguing. i’m curious about

how the entire buying process works with cirrus,

and what some of the existing owner of sr20s

have as experience with tco (total cost of

ownership). there’s a lot in that paragraph

to answer, so let me be a bit more specific.

  • how do you get a position for an sr20?

  • what’s the deposit, what do the monthly

payments work out to be, etc?

  • how do you find a good aviation lawyer (or

what other source might help) to create

a partnership arrangement for one of these?

  • how much do you find this plane costs to

insure, hangar, and fly some number (whatever

experience you have here) of hours a month?

i’m new to this whole thing, so if i’ve missed

some vital questions about ownership, please

ask and answer as well. thanks a bunch!

Call the Factory. Depending upon wher you live, you will have a different sales rep. Try Dick Loneghan (I know I misspelled the last name) @ 612.829.8820 or the factory at 218-727 7216 and ask for Ian Bently.

  • what’s the deposit, what do the monthly

Initial deposit of $15K, another $7.5K due 6 months prior to delivery and yet another $7.5K due 3 months prior to delivery. the payments once you buy the plane depend on how you finance it.

payments work out to be, etc?

  • how do you find a good aviation lawyer (or

a partnership arrangement for one of these?

Try calling AOPA @ 800.872.2672. you are a member aren’t you?

  • how much do you find this plane costs to

insure, hangar, and fly some number (whatever

experience you have here) of hours a month?

All of those depend ou your experience levels, history and local conditions. It seems Insurance qoutes have ranged from $12,800 for a very experienced pilot to over $6,000 for a student pilot. Hangars seem to range from $200 - $500 month depending uppon where you live and if you can even get one!

You’re on the right track. Good lock!
