SANDEL

I see a post from Art P., that the Sandel is now an option in the '20. Is this correct? And does anyone know what the cost increase would be over the standard HSI found in the “C” model? Is there any change in weight, plus or minus? Thanks, Mike#396

See Michael’s excellent report, below, “Notes from AOPA Fly-in Meeting” for all the latest, greatest news from Cirrus!!

The AOPA Pirep did not mention potential cost because Ian said it hadn’t been priced. I seem to remember that in my prior conversations/requests for this option months ago that a $7000 figure was batted around, but you should not consider me reliable on this point–better wait for the Customer Update, then call.

As for weight, I’d bet the difference is less than five pounds.

For those interested, Ian did speculate that the BFS Skywatch option might run $21k; but this too is unpriced for now.

When you compare the price for the Sandel to the price for the Century HSI they are very similar. Therefore there should not be a big price differential between ordering the sandel in place of the HSI. The electric HSI in the “C” package actually costs more than the Sandel by about $1500. Therefore it will be curious to see how Cirrus allows a substitution for one unit versus the other.

Not quite true. The Century HSI has integral gyros; the Sandel requires external gyros (not included in the base cost of the unit.)
