While researching CAPS aircraft that were repaired and flying again, I talked with Lone Mountain, one of the oldest and largest Cirrus service centers.
12 weeks!
Kenny’s advice was to request your shop to order CAPS parts 12 weeks before installation. He’s heard lots of owners attempting to rush things and Cirrus has not improved delivery times. Pretty tough, eh?!
I had my CAPS repacked 10 months ago at DLK aviation in Atlanta. They did a great and timely service and I believe it was 16.5K. I would highly recommend. 2010 SR 22 GTS NA
The Cirrus Service Center ordered everything for our SR22 chute repack on January 5, 2021 that was due March 31,2021. They received everything except the chute. It didn’t ship until the 2nd week of April. “Supplier problems” was the excuse. So if you’re going to need a chute repack, make sure it’s ordered 4 months in advance if you want to have a chance of getting it done on time.
Yeah I’ve been waiting since January for mine. I have a G1. Just waiting and waiting. Finally they decided that they would use a later generation for my plane. I was told it will be shipped in two weeks. Finally!! Literally have been waiting since January.
Just a general response, not to anyone specific. I have maintained close contact with various sources in my now 15-year ownership of my G2. We talk a lot about this and that and the issue of G1 repacks is something they’re very aware of, needless to say.
The issue, as I understand it, is obtaining sign offs authorizing a second repack of original G1 chutes. It is, for the CAPS system, a case of first impression as it were. “The System” (No, I do not know who/where along the chain of approvals nor what the chain entails) is moving slower than the need to accomplish this second cycle now underway on G1’s. Hence what appears to be the approvals granted to use newer chutes, as reported above.
So, it sadly appears that many owners of early G1’s are paying a penalty in time and expenses due to bureaucratic inertia and the supply chain.
That’s all I know at this time, but will always keep an ear out for more hangar row rumors.
Thanks to the previous owner who went above and beyond to ensure I was getting a great plane (paying for the pre-buy, annual and every issue that was identified on the pre-buy) which included replacing the MCU, the repack for my G3 is going to be about $15.5k.
Hi Gerald , my name is Eric Cipcic. Wondering how your repack went. I also use KLNS Advanced and wanted to talk to you about lag times and costs. Hopefully Joel got you squared away. If you have some free time, could you shoot me an email or cell phone call sometime. Any input is greatly appreciated! Best,

I haven’t gotten the plane back yet. The parachute has been installed but they are waiting for the rocket kit. When I talked to them on Wed, they told me that had just finished talking to the person who had my rocket kit in his hand and was about to ship it. It has to be ground shipped and they are hoping for Monday.
Kenny is doing my repack now. I put the deposit down on March 31st, and they got the last part necessary, (the rocket shelf), yesterday Sept 24th. 23 weeks!!
I dropped my plane off last Monday (20th), they had the parachute and was waiting for the rocket. They indicated they had been in constant contact with Cirrus and expected the rocket within two weeks. The rocket arrived late yesterday afternoon and the plane should be ready today. I plan on picking it up on Thursday.
