I recently completed my IFR training and checkride (in a 172). I am in the process of ckecking out in the SR-20 to be able to rent here in Seattle. I just received subscription information from IFR Magazine. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this publication and, if so, whether or not you find it worthwhile. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

James: I have been reading this magazine for years, and read each issue from cover to cover. Other than a quirky sense of humor (“DME ARCS; SAFER THAN SEX” comes to mind as an article title), it is informative, challenging and helpful. For more information see http://www.ifr-magazine.com IFR Magazine .
I also subscribe to the sister publication Aviation Consumer. Probably after you subscribe to IFR you will get a discount offer on Aviation Consumer. See (http://www.aviation-consumer.com> Aviation Consumer . Their recent articles of interest to Cirrus pilots include oxygen systems, blood oxygen monitors, portable com radios, headsets, etc.

There are usually discussions on specific approaches, safety articles and a quiz. See www.ifr-magazine.com for further information.

I have received “IFR” for a couple years now, and I like it very much. I like their “look, here’s the real deal” slant. I also receive “IFR Refresher” which is similar but more straight laced. I am probably going to drop my subscription to that one.
I think you’ll get a lot of real world insights from IFR. Give it a go.

James,
I’ll add my name to the chorus of IFR admirers. It’s the only aviation publication that I really do read word for word and cover to cover. It’s well worth the subscription price.
Cheers,
Roger
Another vote for IFR. Some people are put off by the “editorial tone” (which I happen to find hilarious) and by the bend-the-rules-a-little suggestions that they sometimes have. I’ve used several of their tips (non-rule-benders) with good results.
My favorite article title: one on a series of accidents in which pilots land short of the runway on instrument approaches. A big picture of approach lighting emerging from the murk, and the title: “Save taxi time; park it in the lights”
I read it as soon as I receive it. I also read IFR Refresher. I operate on the theory that you can’t know too much about IFR flying. It also keeps reminding you of things that you just learned in your IFR training and informs you of new procedures etc.

I find it both very useful and immensely entertaining. I very much like their editorial style. Subscribe and enjoy.
I’ll join the chorus supporting IFR as probably the best flight magazine I read.
