Hanger Winch

Yes I am going to join…when I get the plane. I plan on buying an SR20 and have a slow winch in my hanger to pull the plane in, my current plane…old metal type. What is the advise on using the tail tie to attach a winch on the Cirrus?

Thanks

Al

Unless you like to fix composite damage, I wouldn’t. Buy a tug.

AL,

There is a whole thread on wenches in the hangar [:P].

Actually there was a thread on winches too. As I recall…don’t do it. The Cirri are not designed to be pulled by the tail or tiedown hooks. I bought an aerotow tug and love it!

Join early and help me get that thread going on the wenches. [;)]

PS where are you and maybe I’ll meet up with you in my 20.

Alfred,

I would not recommend it, and the reason is because you have to position your plane properly anyway, so why not use a good tug.

Free casting front wheel will give a headache too.

If you really want to do it, you will want to make a U shaped adaptor to the front wheel that would clear the wheel fairing on the back and use it to tow the plane back into hangar. The problem would be placing this reversed tow bar.

In my opinion, not worth it.

Ditto you can NOT use the tail tie down, but if you can bring your plane in nose first (ie don’t have it in a tee hanger) the winch will work.

I simply took some metal aircraft wire, about two feet long, made loop connections at each end, and then would loop this around the tow bar handle. This worked fine for over a year before I moved hangers.

Nope—that dog won’t hunt!! No tow from behind

Great to have you as a member—loads of great things to learn even before you buy!!

Thanks for the input. No winch is the word. I am located at Gonzales, Tx T20 and are currently offering on a 20. I plan to join the group as soon as that happens.

Thanks Al

Due dilligance is best done “before” the purchase, lest litigation insue “after” the purchase.
