hangar winch

My hangar is set up with an electric winch to pull the plane into the hangar backwards. Does this work with a Cirrus? Any ideas on how to make it work?

No the word from Cirrus is, it is a stuctural component. Never pull your plane by it and do not hit it on landing. Don

Steven,
We have a winch in our hangar too and were told the same thing by Cirrus as someone else has already indicated (i.e. don’t do it). We found that our hangar was big enough to pull it in nose first, problem solved. Hope you are as lucky.

Like the others have said, the tail eyebolt is not designed to be pulled in that direction. If you saw how it was attached you would understand it immediately.

It would be a better idea to fabricate a bridle to hitch your winch to the nosewheel anyways. This would guide it directly to the center and avoid the nosewheel from swivelling around past its stop.

Where were you on this one Dennis? I thought for sure I was gonna read about a barmaid!

My apologies to Stephen. He just asked a serious question. Thank goodness there were a few here that could give him a serious answer.

The rest of us were just trolling for fun. We unfortunately (for Stephen) have attended the DENNIS HABER seminar on that subject. Now, instead of REALLY funny replies, the forum has to put up with the rest of us amatures/amatuers/armatures/…oh, you know, those of us who are still in training to be a professional.

I was looking for Dennis, too!

I can’t find the “Wizard of Id” cartoon right now, but the punchline was something like:

“No, darn it! I said bring me a WENCH!”

I, too was looking for Dennis. I’ll give it MY best shot, thankful that I can ever reach Dennis’ level.
Best I can do for a winch wench:

Now, if you’re looking to save a few bucks on a used wench…

Finally, wy can’t the ol’ Wiz of Id have it both ways?

Mike,

Not bad…Dennis, are you watching?

Yes, I am watching, but I am ignoring you. I am busy in the COPA political forum.

ROTLMAO…! Dennis, that’s got to be one of your FUNNIEST replies yet… [:D]

  • Mike.

So, therefore, yes DENNIS WAS WATCHING…and not ignoring as he would have us believe.

However, I am ACOPA challenged and wonder what the Hell ROTLMAO is? Rotten lettuce and mayo?

ROTFLMAO: An old British (Cockney) mnemonic. Stands for Rolling On The Floor, Laughing Me 'At Off.

Well, actually it’s not British at all. I’ll leave it to you to figure out the American equivalent. [;)]
