GPS Trainer

ASA has come out with “GPS Trainer” that covers the Garmin 430. Has anyone tried it? I’ve tried the Garmin company’s simulator and was not all that impressed. Perhaps, this is better? It has movie clips, animation, interactive diagrams, etc. I tried to download a demo copy at http://www.asa2fly.com and it said my browser needs updating if below 3.0 (I have IE 5.0, so something is screwy with their website). Perhaps, someone else would have better luck.

Gary,

I have IE 5.50, and had the same problem as you.

Try clicking on the “demo” button on the left side then going to the GPS area and downloading the demo software. I downloaded the zipped version of the complete demo. I have not unzipped and tried it however.

Gary: When I saw the announcement, it appeared to me that all that they were doing is collecting the manufacturer’s training programs and re-packaging them on a single CD. There is no indication that anything they are providing is new material. If someone has actually bought one and knows for sure, please post your experience. The fact that many people could not get the demo to work does not bode well.

I just got an email from ASA and they said that their server is down, so attempts to access the demos will fail. He didn’t say when the server would be back up, but I’d try it again an a few days.

Here’s the demo URL. It’s actually just a Quick Time movie:

http://store.yahoo.com/lib/avshop/gpsmovie.exe

The software is available at Marv Golden’s website for $89
