For a price difference of $1,000 I would have preferred the GNC 300 XL instead of the GNC250XL as backup GPS. The 300 is an IFR gps.

Been flying with the 300XL cert for IFR since December and have the following comments.
To be IFR Cert the 300XL requires an indicator that is different that the 430’s since it does not reuire the GS funtion.
The 300XL also requires an external annunciator panel, not anywhere in the current SR-20 panel.
I am VERY satisfied with the 300XL and would gladly use it as a second radio in my own SR-20 (When, not IF, I order one) that’s because I’m already very familiar with it. However, good comments have been made before in this forum about how practical it is to operate TWO GPS (really FMS) systems. One of these is enought to be proficient in particularly during ammended clearances and vector onto airways/course, etc.
My vote will be for dual 430’s and I plan to make that vote in the about 3 months after I convince my wife about upgrading from our Cessna.
Perhaps we should have a seperate forum about the lines you all have used that actually WORKED on your Wives/Husbands…
