I was wondering if anyone could provide me with the expences of owning a SR20.I realize hangering the a/c will differ from state to state but was just wondering what to expect, any input will be helpful. Thanks

A California owner friend of mine who flies his SR20 250+ hr/year and hangars it in a fairly expensive place told me that he figured his total operating expenses looked to be about $100/hr, including insurance, maintenance, reserves etc.

Trying to get a little closer in the cost of owning/operating. Consider very rough figures; Finiancing- ~24,000/yr; hanger~ 4,000/yr insurance~4,000/yr {low time pilot} maintenance at 2-4,000/yr? and fuel as used. Am I missing anything? Is the maintenance estimate close? The hanger cost are pretty close for my airport. Obviously cost/hr will very with hrs flown, but I am trying to get a handle on cost per year, Thanks

I would add an allowance of $20 an hour to cover the engine and prop TBO. I would also add an additional $7,000 a year to cover a 10 year life on the avionics, interior, and paint.

If you want to be really rigorous, you should also include loss of investment income on capital invested in the plane.
Digression not meant to apply to anyone in this thread: I’m not trying to be cute, but it just points out that at some level of detail estimating cost becomes a futile, even depressing exercise. The bottom line is that there is virtually no way short of continuous business use that one can “justify” the cost of a personal airplane economically. My experience owning an aircraft is that the total cost of travelling this way is nearly ten times the cost to go by car. However the intangibles–personal satisfaction, avoiding traffic and exposure to risks due to other drivers’ inattention/ineptitude, the enjoyment of flying for the “visual romantic,” the ability to do something inherently risky in such a way as to make it safe & pleasurable for myself and passengers–are to me worth the cost. IMHO, the best attitude to have regarding cost is “mindful but not preoccupied.”
