Cirrus SR20 Demo finally arives in CANADA

Tom Bergeron just called me while I was checking into this site. The Cirrus has landed! After 3 years I get to touch, smell and fly the real thing tomorrow am. Stay tuned…

Calgary Ab CYYC

Well, I finally got to fly an SR20. I suspect that I am one of very few Canucks to do this in Canada. For me, sitting in the SR20 was the equivalent of getting in a LEXUS after driving “beaters” for 10 years.

It flew as advertised and just as others have posted to this group. No surprises. Despite having 75% of my 1000 hours in aircraft with a right handed center stick the left hand yolk took about 60 seconds to adapt to. It sure does not land like a Cessna or Piper but this is just different, not better. We got a compliment from the Tower about our “good looks” and for the first time in my life I was asked to “slow down” in a circuit!

Climb was adequate but not stunning. 5 - 600 fpm on a 20 deg C (70 F) day, 4000 foot agl airport with nearly 600 lbs of people and half tanks. (Certainly better than a 172 but I guess I associate the speed and climb with the 260 hp plus type of aircraft I have rented in the past)

Great airplane, wonderfull experience. Cirrus has hit in on the nose for this pilot. Make it easy. simple, and SAFE to fly for those of us who don’t do it every day!

Sure wish I had a stable, easy to fly SR20 available for my IFR check ride next week!

Good luck on your check ride. Remember - turn, time, twist, throttle, talk!
