I am planning on attending Sun-n-fun this April and I am not interested in flying into Lakeland airport (Been there-done that). What I would like to do is land at one of the smaller surrounding airports (KGIF, KZPH,KPCM,KBOW) and rent a car. If anyone has any suggestions on good FBO’s at any of these airports with rental car availability, I would sure like to hear of your experiences and recommendations.
Thanks for your time in considering this question.
Paul,
I flew into Winterhaven (GIF) last year. They did a great job of taking care of us. National Car Rental set up a desk for car rental, they were very nice to deal with.
Winter Haven is about 10 miles east of Lakeland.
Although a litle out of the way (45 minute drive) I fly to Tampa. Get my wife a hotel on the beach. Then I just drive in for two or three days. When flying to Tampa I usually fly into Peter O Knight field. Rental cars are avail.
Has anyone decided on the days Cirrus will hold a meeting or COPA?
Mason,
How was the traffic getting in to the event in the mornings? I’ve heard it can be a real hassle and take an hour or more in line in the car, then a long walk from parking etc.
Thanks,
Greg
What are the dates. it says on there site the 7 to 12 of April. But then on a link it says fly in is from the 2 to the 8 of April. Is it worth the trip down then I see the copa class is in the samr time frame. From Don

Thanks for the info. My Dad and I have always gone in connection with the Warbirds and they really take care of you if you fly a Warbird in. They arrange for a rental car at the airport and give us a carpass to get in and out the ‘secret VIP back way’. However, I have been wanting to fly the Cirrus down. This year, we will have to fly the L-19 to get ‘the treatment’ and if the weather is IMC, we can’t go.
Thanks again,
Greg
