Stormscope in California, reprise

Someone asked earlier about the utility of Stormscope in California. I have to admit after my somewhat exciting trip through the mid-west coming back from Duluth, I expected to mothball the Stormscope displays until my next trip east. But, yesterday leaving Palm Springs at 4pm, there was a line of scattered airmass storms up the ridges, with one visible just to the south, and another reported 20 miles north. With the Stormscope, I was able to find a comfortable 40 mile hole between them and get home. Of course, no storms were forcast when I left the SF Bay area that morning. I was glad to have had my mid-west experience so I could interpret the situation with some confidence.
