SR22 Comm 2 problems -- Who else has it? ; Low fuel light

One of the problems with my '22 is that Comm 2 is nearly unusable because the signal is weak, both receiving and transmitting. I am curious to know whether this is a known problem and how many others have this problem. I’ve heard of at least one other '22 with a weak Comm 2.

I’ve asked Cirrus about this, but so far haven’t heard from them. My impression, and it only an impression at this point, is that they are reluctant to comment on problems which are common to a number of their aircraft.

One thing I learned recently is that the low fuel light in the '22 has a five minute delay. This was not the case the '22 I flew at Cirrus, 140CD, but that plane was really partly a '20, especially in the fuel system. My guess is that they added the delay so that the pilot wouldn’t be bothered by the low fuel warning light during turns/climbs/descents that move the fuel around.

I never saw my low fuel light come on, despite being well less than 14 gallons in both sides for some time (more than five minutes). But when the service center drained the tanks, looking for this problem to recurr, the light worked perfectly. So maybe the problem is intermittant.

If COM2 is poor, then you have a fault. Get it fixed (under warranty, of course). It’s gotta be either the COM itself, or the antenna or cabling. Whatever, it should work properly.

Our SR20 had a weak Comm 2 reception. Local Garmin dealer swapped out for a new unit from Garmin. The next unit receiced well but woudl not transmit. Swapped for another new unit. Third try was the charm. Unit works great and all work was done under warranty with no questions asked and very prompt service from Garmin.

Robert,

My COMM 2 went bad at ~120 hours – weak reception. The GNS430 was changed out, and now it’s fine.

I haven’t noticed any difference between comm’s 0036 off the line June 12th. Rick

Just finished a week of IFR between NE Pa and western Ky without problems with either com2 or with transponder reception.
Does a manual come with the stormscope? That along with the altitude preselect is not clearly evident to me so far.

What a pleasant IFR machine…

MY Hat is OFF… to Ian Bentley, Suzi Knox, Kate Andrews, Mike VanStaagen, Chris Dixon, and “Pilot Dr.” Black. I appreciate your efforts, attention and personal touches in making my stay in Duluth so memorable. I enjoyed the opportunity to wear shorts, tee-shirts, long pants, sweaters and coats all in the space of a week.
I will be still looking for the brothers to pose with 6CD on my next visit.

I can’t sign off without special recognition for Ron Scheibe. It is difficult, I know, for a 23 yo to dial into the experiences of a 50 year old.

His work with me on introduction to systems, aircraft character and performance were tuned to my needs in a manner which met my highest expectations. Cudos for Wings Aloft and Mr. Scheibe.

WX 500 manual can be downloaded from BFG web site. I think either this forum or Cirrus has address. I found it via Yahoo, but don’t remember address.

I totally agree with your assesment of Ron Scheibe. Not only was he very knowledgable about the aircraft and it’s systems, he was also a pleasure to work with. Don’t always find those two together too often…
