Hello,
We have moved all the messages in the SR20.ORG archives (from November 1999 when Clyde started the site, until the 3rd week in August, 2001) to the public-access section of the COPA web site. Please note that anyone (COPA member or non-member) can read and post to that forum.
(For those of you not familiar with it, the COPA web site can be found at http://www.cirruspilots.orghttp://www.cirruspilots.org.)
In a short while, we will move over the “current” set of messages from the this forum to the COPA location, and the “merging” of the two forumswill be complete.
Until now, Clyde Stubbs has been supporting and maintaining this sr20.org site using his own time and funds; we have all decided it’s better to shift those responsibilities to the COPA organization. But I think I speak for everybody who used the sr20.org forum when I say “THANK YOU” to Clyde for creating it in the first place! (And Clyde will be continuing to play a role in helping us with the COPA site, as well.)
For now, you may post here if you like, or on the COPA Public Forum (or Member’s Forum, or wherever you like!) . Soon, however, when we move over the current posts, the sr20.org forum will direct you to the COPA forums.
We’ve received both positive and negative feedback on the format of the COPA forums (the main negative comment has been that it doesn’t support a convenient left/right split like this current forum does). I won’t bore everybody here, but I did post our reasons for selecting the new forum software on the public COPA Forum.
Please let any of us (myself, Clyde, COPA officers, etc.) if you have any questions or concerns!
Thanks,
Steve
I haven’t yet understood what the benefits of this migration will be for us readers. Looks to me that while it will give the new COPA site exposure, at the same time we will loose the independence of this site. COPA gets a free ride because from now on we will all have to get to the COPA site to follow the forum. I am still not convinced that the hefty COPA membership fee translates in real benefits but I will be happy to change my mind… In the meantime I will cope with the new (limited) design of the COPA Website.
On one thing I agree with you guys: thanks to Clyde!!! I hope he will be happy with this development and I am sure that he will now have more time to fly.
Paolo

For my ageing eyes the new COPA display is significantly more difficult to read than is “Clyde’s” site. Perhaps if you could lose the menu at the left of the screen it would help [give the space to the users], as would a larger and/or different display font. Any gain in software speed is lost to a less user friendly screen.

Paolo,
Don’t panic! As Steve said in the first sentence of his message, the sr20.org Forum is being moved to the public-access section of the COPA web site. That means it costs you nothing — that’s nada, zip, zilch — to read or to post messages. You don’t have to become a member of COPA (though I would strongly encourage any SR20/22 owner or position holder to do so).
I’m personally delighted by the change. It (a) gives Clyde a well-deserved break and (b) moves the Forum to a much faster server.
Cheers,
Roger

a) is right, but b) isn’t - the COPA site is hosted by Pair Networks, just like this site - however the new Forum software used on the COPA site does have some significant technical advantages, which may well translate into better performance. I hope that it will be possible to set it up to give the option of a split-frame layout like this one, but even without that, the new software has enough advantages to justify the change. But the excellent uptime and accessibility record of sr20.org will be maintained by COPA, and I believe the move will benefit all Cirrus owners, tire-kickers and enthusiasts.
Steve, BTW, has done a great job of setting up the new site, and has migrated the old message archives over with very little help from me. Maybe I should offer him a job…

Clyde,
Thanks for the insight into why the COPA Forums “feel” faster.
I’ll second your commendations of Steve’s first-rate work!
Cheers,
Roger
Gary,
You can select a larger font in your browser software. For example, in Explorer for the Macintosh there is a “Text Zoom” option under the “View” menu.)

Hi Gary,
Could you (and anyone else having these types of issues) please let me know what browser type and version you are using? If the “menu at the left of the screen” (i.e. the one giving choices like “About COPA”, “What’s New”, etc.) is still being displayed while you browse the forums, that should not be happening – when you go to the forums, it should remove that menu, in order to give more room for the messages.
Similarly, the font size of the messages in the forums should be roughly the same size as is here on sr20.org; one difference is that it is not bold print like here on sr20.org, but the size is pretty much the same.
I have a feeling if you’re still seeing the menu there and the font size is a lot smaller than this site, it might be an issue with the specific browser and/or platform you’re using. I’d like to give it a try, which I can probably do if I know what version you’re using.
Please drop me an email and let me know what you’re using so I can try to fix it for that browser version.
Thanks!
Steve Lin
