Ashamed to confess to this, but with 120 hours on N2578B, went night flying for the first time last night.
While my original light is still burning brightly, some of the metal tape seems to have melted off, leaving some of the top left (pilot side) part of the light uncovered by the tape. It also seems that at that spot, I’m getting a considerable reflection off the prop.
Is this reflection due to the tape coming off, or is it just something I have to learn to live with? Also, any suggestions about how to augment the missing tape without creating a fire hazard or some other type of problem?
As always, appreciate the input.
Andy

Suggest you get an aluminium plate made up replace the tape - it will last a lot longer and definitely not be a fire hazard.
Clyde, you drastically over-estimate me. Great input, but how do I do it?
Where would I get the plate made, and how would I secure it?
Thanks!
Andy

The one on our plane was made up by the maintenance organization that looks after the plane, and it is, as I recall, secured with the top landing-light mounting screw, i.e. there is a tab on the (curved) plate that extends upwards to the screw. If you like, I can take a picture and send it to you - give me a day or two.
Andy,
Go to any maintenance facility and ask one of the mechanics for a piece of high speed tape. This is the tape that Clyde has suggested, it is called high speed because if you place it anywhere and press the edge of the tape with your finger nail with a one direction rubbing pressing firmly you can go supersonic and it wont depart the airplane, great tape this is why it can cost $60 bucks a roll. Anyway, get a piece wider then the light, clean the surface were the old tape was, replace the tape (same locaton) press firmly, then with a sharp straight raiser cut the extra around the light, be carefull on the angle that you hold the blade or you wont get a smooth cut. Once that done turn your finger nail horizontal with the tape and press hard as you move your nail all around the edge of the tape, now get a alcohool pad and remove all the greese from the light, do the last step again and then go have a great Cirrus day flying…
Cheers,
Woor
PS the spell ck is inop…
