Southern California Cirrus Fly-in

Southern California Cirrus Fly-in

Ok, What do you all think about Oxnard(OXR), Saturday, March 8th, from 11:00 –2:00?

I have never been there, but I talked with Dave at “Oxnard Aircraft and Jet Center” he said gas is $2.85 and no parking fee. I also talked with a lady at the restaurant on the field “Leslie’s Seafood” and she said they are right next to the ramp with seating for around 60. Both said they would be happy to have us and would bring in extra help depending on how many of us we expect.

If any of you feel Oxnard is a good or bad choice, please post. If this sounds like it is workable, I will post who to RSVP to in a few days.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

Oxnard (http://www.airnav.com/airport/KOXRKOXR) sounds like a great choice. There’s even an ILS if the weather goes a bit flat.

I’ll be there!

Cheers,
Roger

Well, I won’t be there, because I’ll be boarding my flight to Duluth at noon 3/8, but IMHO Oxnard is kind of a dead airport. Camarillo (CMA) is by contrast a happening spot for GA, and the restaurant (Waypoint Café) is plastered with GA photos and memorabilia. Has a nice outdoor patio, too. Big, free ramp. Gas is $0.50/gallon cheaper than Oxnard at the self-serve pump. Lots of warbirds to gawk at.

Just my $0.02, which isnÂ’t worth even that much because I wonÂ’t even be there.

I was hoping to meet Gordon. I did once at Palm springs but I was late getting there,. I want to tahnk him in person for his helping us. What about 1 week later will you be back. He helps all of us so much with INFO. Gordon will you be back by then or is that to soon? From Don

Although there is a good BBQ restaurant on the field at Oxnard, I’d have to agree
with Gordon on all the other points.

I’m home based at Camarillo, with the cheaper fuel, museum and cafe, it would be
a better choice than Oxnard.

I could fly around the pattern and land at the fly-in, I guess

Michael

Camarillo is fine, but it’s also very popular — which means that (a) there may not be enough parking for everyone who flies in, and (b) it’s unlikely that the whole Cirrus group will be able to sit together in the restaurant. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a fly-in, don’t you agree?
By contrast, at Oxnard we’ll rule the roost and be able to look at each other’s airplanes — because there’s plenty of room to park all of them next to each other.
Jim C. has worked very hard to organize this fly-in. I would suggest that we not get into second-guessing him right off the bat. Otherwise we’ll end up with no fly-in.

Good points. I have not heard of “Leslie’s Seafood” and couldn’t find it listed anywhere. Does anyone know whether it is truly adjacent to the ramp? I suggest a stop-by by someone to check it out prior to the event if possible. (Roger - Monday destination? [:)])

No second-quessing intended. Jim specifically asked for our opinions as to whether OXR was a good choice in his original post. I responded to his request.

Gordon,

You’re quite right — my apologies.

Let’s check out the restaurant situation in Oxnard on Monday evening.

Cheers,
Roger

the restaurant on field in Oxnard is pretty dead. They have one waitress who seemed to been just released from a drug rehab. (No insult intended just an observation) However, the people - Pilots and airport staff are superb

Mario.
