Scottsdale September 2021 Migration | Registration OPEN!

“Why does the registration ask for my clothes size?”

It’s not a Migration if there isn’t sweet, sweet swag!

That was true in the early Migrations (remember "Great Bags?), then it eroded. Badly. The low was the last one in Duluth when the “Greaty bag” consisted of an envelope containing a $10 gift certificate for Grandma’s restaurant, which was of course useless since we were all eating at COPA events and venues and subsequently left Duluth.

Seriously?.. it’s been a few yrs since I’ve attended Migration…used to give nice polo shirts or vests!
How disappointing it will be to come away empty handed…

Maybe that Cirrus and COPA getting along again, we will be recipients of some fine clothing articles from the Cirrus Haberdashery

There was a garment, but in addition to that there used to be “Greaty bags” that were stuffed with “swag” (as Andy put it), and the bags themselves were backpacks or other utility bags that were useful for flying trips. (One year they were wheeled bags, one of which I still use.) An envelope with a useless $10 gift certificate was an insult.

Migration committee take note!

Now a gift certificate for a free fill up with AVGAS certainly wouldn’t be an insult.
I’ll plan to arrive at SDL on reserve just in case the committee is indeed looking for swag suggestions.

Gordon,
I found a few left over M10 polo shirts when we were cleaning out all the accumulation of stuff in Duluth; I thought we’d sold them all at subsequent Migration Rummage Sales. But I could send you one if that’d make things square. You do take a 4XXX, right?

(ISTR there was more at M10, so maybe you got shorted, somehow Then again, it may be my faulty Boomer memory)

OK, Boomer.

The shirts were there. I was specifically talking about the “Greaty bag” which was an envelope. But thanks for the offer!

Make Greaty Bags Great Again :sunglasses:

What does one do with their 10 year old at these things typically?

Ok, I am all registered up. Looking forward to meeting a bunch of COPA folks in person!

Scottsdale has an outstanding train museum - website here. They have these little trains you can ride - my son LOVED it. I think tickets were like $2/ride. A must for the kiddos! You’ll notice my son is in 2 different outfits because we actually went back the next day it was so much fun haha

This resort has nice pool with FlowRider. You can practice surfing, pretty cool technology.

The aquarium is worth a visit as well.

Gotta love an aquarium in the desert. :+1:

Lots of really good ideas. What I’m seeing is, of course lots to do in the area and even at resort.

But then if I’m doing that all day, what am I paying $750 (or $1500/couple) for. Just sort of thinking out loud. I’m guessing we don’t also pay $750 for our little guy.

Anyone else bringing their elementary aged kids?

Chris,

Truthfully we have not had many Kids at these events in years past. That is something We are trying to change by selecting the locations/resorts we have. This has been to encourage participation for those that don’t want to spend a full weekend away from the kids. While also being a place for those without bringing the kids. We need to balance everything.

I am meeting with the hotel this Friday for some pre planning work. Pre-covid they did have a kids club. I am going to check to see if that is back open and see what opportunities we can offer.

I will report back here and also reach out privately.

Personally:

My wife and I are planning to leave the kids with my sister, but as a backup, the resort is greet for kids. My wife would only come to the social event (with a kid sitter/kids club) and be with the kids at the pool and around town while I’m in at the event.

Any 10 + year old would be welcome to the PIC course offered.

My kids will be 8 and 5… a little to young to attend in my opinion.

Scottsdale has the interactive butterfly museum. Great for all ages… https://butterflywonderland.com

And for music lovers:

Shy just highlighted what is unquestionably the best place to visit in PHX.

Great for any age. Lots of hands on stuff.close to the hotel. Great if it’s too hot outside.
