Sandel Discontinues SN3308 EHSI

At the AOPA Expo in Philadelphia Sandel was showing off its EHSI, only with a brighter display and wider viewing angle like in their TWAS products.

This was on their web site this morning.

After a long and successful production run Sandel has discontinued production of the SN3308 EHSI. We will, of course, continue to support that unit with repairs, spare parts and technical assistance.

We are introducing a new, higher performance product later in 2004 for the regional airline, corporate and general aviation markets. Currently in the final stages of development, this new 3-ATI unit is a third-generation, TSOÂ’d product suitable for both turbine and piston aircraft. It will also incorporate the compact size, pilot-friendly features, bright display and innovative packaging that led to the SN3308Â’s excellent market acceptance.

We appreciate your understanding and continued support, and will keep you informed as our new EHSI achieves certification and becomes available.

Great! My 18 month old plane is more and more becoming a dinosaur.

No whining…
still a great tool in anyone’s airplane, mine included. Gadgets are cool but dont forget what the mission really is. Most commuter aircraft would drool over our “dinosour” Sandel…

The good news is they’ll continue to support it.

Did they mention if the new unit would be a “drop in” replacement for the 3308? Seems like they said it would be some time ago when they were takling about a new version.

For how long until the costs of support for a relatively small number of units become prohibitive?

Of course it is a “Drop-In.” You “drop” $20,000 with your avionics shop and he’ll put one “in” for you. [:)]

At the Expo they said the version they were showing there (with the “TWAS” display) would be a drop in. I think they said it would be called a 3310. I contacted them several times after that to see when it would hit the street and each time they gave me vague answers and told me to watch their web site for announcements.

I don’t know, of course, but it sounds to me like they’re skipping the “3310” altogether and going to an entirely new model. Whether or not it will be a drop-in replacement, I don’t know.
