Rumbling Sound

We flew our SR20 this morning and after about 20 minutes we felt and heard what appeared to be a low rumbling and vibration coming from the rear of the aircraft. We had no power loss and the plane flew fine but this sound and vibration was very concerning to us. After about 5 minutes it stopped and reappeared about 10 minutes later. It lasted for about 5 minutes then disappeared again and we never heard or felt it again. After landing and looking at the aircraft we noticed that the wing-walk material on the step was peeled back and torn about 3/4 off the passenger side. Maybe this could have been the sound and vobration that we heard and felt. Anyone else had anything like this? The wing-walk material sucks being white and that fact that it’s peeling off with only 60 hours on the plane. Any thoughts?

Mike,

Perhaps another thing to check is the white rubber seal that covers the area where the nosewheel strut enters the lower cowling.

If this seal comes out of place, the slipstream causes it to make a rumbling/vibrating noise, at least until it tears completely off!

Just another thing you might want to check for…

When the rubber seal self-destructed on my airplane, I got a new one from Cirrus, and added Velcro strips along the sides. Since then, it has stayed firmly put.

Mike R is a shoe-in for the Velcro Manufacturer’s Association Man of the Year Award, given this and his toilet bowl/nose gear fairing cover. Congrats, Mike!!

We solved our problem…It was the anti-skid material ripping off the step on the passenger side of the plane…We removed the rest and flew it this morning with ZERO problems…Hopefully we can get Cirrus to send us some that will STAY on…Fly Safe.
