Only one way to stop hijacking

Many extreme measures are about to be implemented to try to stop this hijacking weapon, which will choke freedoms and our economy. But the only way to stop this is being overlooked, and may be one of the most heroic stories in this tragedy.

It appears the passengers on UA flight 93 may have perished stopping the hijackers from their mission, causing the plane to crash in Pennsylvania.

This is the only real answer to hijacking. There is nothing that the cowards fear more than true bravery. The terrorist assumption is that when Americans die, they surrender (Lebannon, Sudan, etc.) If the terrorists know that their attempt at martyrdom will be met by equal determination, that Americans will not permit themselves to be used as weapons to attack their fellow men, then the terrorists will abandon that path.

The same propaganda machines (our networks) that are filling our minds with images of destruction and despair must be redirected to focus on the will and heroism that is the only way to foil this evil. Every passenger must board a plane knowing they will not permit such a crime.

It seems to me that a better approach than a marshall or ridiculously intrusive screenings is to take a much more technology focused approach. Have a anti-hijacking system built into the avionics that will simply land the plane at a specified airport when activated. Make it impossible to deactivate once activated.

Doesnt our existing avionics in commercial aircraft have the capability to do this? (Land a plane?)

This doesnt solve every problem, but ensures that A) plane not used as a bomb B) No escape for hijackers.

Could potentially be activated from front or rear of aircraft or even from the ground.

Am I missing something here?

Unfortunately, most planes do not have the auto land capability. However, it would at least take some of the inventory out of consideration for use as human cruise missiles.

Since we seem to agree that keeping knives off of planes is pretty much impossible, why don’t we arm the cockpit crew and have a rule that, in case of a hyjacking, the cabin door must not be opened for any reason. With a little reenforcement and a low cost closed circuit camera, this would give the pilots some protection and time to take some action.
