Just got back from DLH in my new SR22! A full report of the delivery, training, and trip home will appear in the first issue of the COPA newsletter, but in the meantime:
-
Wow, what a great plane! Absolutely awesome. The plane outperforms specs (and my expectations) in all areas.
-
The notion that QC has suffered recently is unfounded. While I had a few squawks, they were very minor. The fit and finish on this plane is outstanding. They are clearly put together by a caring, dedicated group.
-
The people at Cirrus are great. Really great. Alison was on a well deserved vacation, but came out on the first evening to meet us for dinner anyway. Suzi Knox did my delivery, did a wonderful job, and made the whole process alot of fun. And you should hear her sing!
-
The attitude at Cirrus is very upbeat. I arrived the day the Cresent deal was announced. The local TV news was doing a live story with my plane as the backdrop!
-
There are alot of planes in various stages of construction. Alot. Probably 25+ SR22’s. I saw fuselage numbers at least as high as s/n 0098 on the factory floor. No SR20’s there yet, but the airframes are arriving this week.
-
After a 1.5 hour conversation with Alan K., I can report Cirrus is doing great, growing, improving productivity, working on new products and options, and is now 100% debt free. Watch out Cessna and Piper…
-
Special thanks to Chris Dixon, who came out on Sunday morning to fix an alternator problem, and when it appeared again a couple days later, Fed-Exed an entire new MCU to me for the early 8am delivery. Service is absolutely first rate.
-
Performance? 185 ktas at 11000 feet. Saw ground speeds of 220+ several times. Can easily peg the VSI at about any altitude. Lots of fun to fly in formation (ask the John Rogotsky, N845JR!) Low passes down the DLH runway at 185 kts followed by a 1000 foot climb in 10 seconds…! Wow did we have fun! Chicago to Syracuse in under 3 hours at 16 gph - with no tail wind.
-
Great training by WA (thanks John) If you are taking delivery, do everything you can to get hands on experience with a Garmin 430 first. I had one in my Tobago, and am really glad I did.
-
Did I mention what a great plane this is?!
