March Cirrus Event

I am not at my plane at the moment Bruce (duhhhh)
but it shows up in the Airnav database:
http://www.airnav.com/airport/17FL
In any case, 17FL (Graystone a/k/a Jumbolair) is 8.1 mi along the 041 radial off of OCF (Ocala)

Its hard to miss with a 7,000 ft runway.
And, as the old commercial said:
Don’t ya worry. We’ll keep a candle burnin for ya.

thanks Mike!

thanks Mike!

What about me ???
My answer wasn’t as fancy as Mike, but it was more direct.
WATSAMATTER. Simple isn’t good on this forum?[;)]

Ok, thanks Dennis [:)]

I see that. Low ceilings inland and north of the Lake Okeechobee area.

OCF is reporting 1.25mi vis 300 overcast

Where is Port Orange? Yes many airports north of the lake are IFR or LIFR this morning.

Port Orange is just south of Daytona. Spruce Creek Fly-In.

Anybody make it there yesterday?

Heck Paul:
You were the only one who didn’t come. Fast Eddie, Tripp, me with my family.
To get in, all you had to do was shoot the ILS at Graystone. It brings you down to 250ft and it was fine from there. We met with the “Thayers” who own the place. They offered us the Conf/dining room for our private functions any time we want Perhaps a COPA SE would work. We also met with John Travolta and his family who says he is going to add a Cirrus to his fleet just as soon as Cirrus comes out with a jet. Tom Cruise was there too.
I also arranged for Richard Kane to fly with a N.Y. Times photographer who was there with a reporter doing a story on Fly-in communities. As soon as I get the pics, I will post a Pirep on the trip. Fast Eddie offered to give you an ILS refresher if you need.

What BS!

Bruce; I wouldn’t lie to you. Really . . . I’m not pulling your teeth!
OK
Calling on Fast Eddie; Show him the pictures
Calling on Richard Kane; Bruce doesn’t believe me.
Tell him. What was the name of the N.Y. Times photographer who flew with you.

OK, I admit it. I padded the story a little. There is no ILS at Graystone./ Jumbolair
The glow of Travolta’s aura is a landing beacon requiring no further instrument approach facility.

Thank you! Seriously who made it in with 300’ ceilings???

In order to make it to 17FL Trip and I had to fly low all the way from Daytona. We had the advantage of an iPaq running CoPilot live with a Bluetooth connection and turn by turn voice guidance. Made the field with no problem our craft are in the foreground of this picture:

Look closely and Cruise and Travolta are clearly in the background beside Sam Shepard and the One-armed man. Unfortunately, the glow of the photogenic Cirri crew makes them blend into the background.

Great food and fun even with a small crowd. Let’s do it again in May.

902CD made it! We waited in Gainsville til noon (Had to get gas, anyway), ceilings lifted to 1000’.

We didn’t see Tom or John, but we were a little late

I give up . . . Crocodile Dundee?

As you may know, Jumbolair has their own stables. The Ocala area is a world famous horse breeding and training community. Here is one of the local high stake horses who I did not properly tip prior to taking his picture.

The area is also famous for its bird nesting habitats. Several of the larger birds were impressed, even overwhelmed by the effective Cirrus design. This bird was so impressed with the wing design that he tried, in vein, to imitate a Cirrus on landing. Personally, with his high wing design, I thought he looked more like a Cessna.
