Greater Midwest Fall Fly-In

Is the end of summer getting you down? Need something to do before thanksgiving and Holidays consume all humanity? Or are you depressed about the election, need some place to shake of the blues? Perhaps you are just plum tuckered out from celebrating the big Republican win? Well we have the answer for all of these ailments! No problems? OK, then, just come on to meet your COPA friends and have a bite to eat.
Andy Bressler & I are sponsoring the Greater Midwest Fall Fly-In At Lambert’s Cafe this Saturday, November 13th in Sikeston, MO (SIK).

If you’ve never been to Sikeston, there is only one reason to go and that IS Lambert’s. Lambert’s is famous for casual dining, featuring somewhat southern and somewhat country style cooking, copious portions, extremely good value, and of course throwed rolls. (If you’ve never had throwed rolls, you gotta come to find out why they are famous for 'em! ) Seriously, this is one great $100 hamburger place, and they really love pilots.

Sikeston is located in the boot heel of Missouri, south of St. Louis and a bit NW of Memphis, TN.

This will be a very casual event, no reservations or RSVPS are necessary, but if you think you are going, please post so that we have an idea of who and how many are coming. If you forget to post or decide at the last minute, come on anyway, this is a casual place and the more the better.

Specifics:

Where: Sikeston, MO (SIK)
When: Saturday November 13. Arrive to airport at Noon
Transportation: You fly to Sikeston, Lambert’s will take care of the rest.
WX: Looks pretty VFR in all directions, but Scott, any professional advice?
Who: YOU, of course, and your friends and family
What: Lunch
Cost: None - you just pay for your meal

Did I say that it was THIS Saturday at NOON? Did I say the food was really good and plentiful? Did I say it is a fun restaurant? Did I mention the rolls? [:$]

If you have any questions, you can contact Andy or me through this web site or just post them.

(Left traffic is appreciated and since there will be plenty of food, no butting.) [;)]

That’s what I get for not checking COPA more often.

Just found out about this today. What was the turnout like?

I think there were a total of five planes and twelve people, including my wife Nancy and I. A great time was had by all, and we really thank Marty and Andy for initiating this. We had a perfect safety record – not one of the attendees was injured by flying rolls![:)]

Yea, but I think we may have had an incident with the landing roll, or perhaps more accurately, the roll landing.

Sorry for the lack of notice, this was a fairly last minute idea. Surprisingly, the WX cooperated wonderfully.

Not surprising at all.
I’m sure Scott can fill you in on the little-discussed aspect of weather known as the Murphy Effect. This is a well-documented phenomenon whereby the weather adapts to foil plans. The more care you take (i.e. the more lead-time you provide) before the event, the more time the weather has to reorganize in such a way as to ruin it.

Your tactic is exactly what is recommended by students of Murphy’s Law. You snuck up on it, inserting a meaningful day of outdoor plans into the weather mix, too late for it to change.

Bravo!
