GARMIN 430 ETE

My 430s display Time Enroute or Distance to Destination always to the next waypoint of the flightplan. Is there a possibility to find ETE and Distance to the final point of the flight plan? (Except for using the 2nd Garmin in Direct To mode)?

There is but requires a few steps. In another words, it does not display on the nav page.

On the first AUX page, select trip planning and make sure the first point reads P.POS. P.POS is usually the default and doesn’t require changing.

In the bottom box the Garmin will display DIS ETE and ETA based on the current ground speed and active flight plan.

Timm, I fly with the #1 430 in the Nav/Map mode and the #2 430 in FPL, which gives continuous distance/ETE to all waypoints including the final destination. The other reason I like this setup is I am constantly aware of what is programmed as my route of flight including the approach that I have loaded or activated. Finally, this setup gives me a quick way to modify my flight plan in flight (e.g. when ATC clears me direct to a waypoint other than the one I’m heading to, it’s a simple matter of turning on the cursor, twisting the knob to highlight the cleared-to waypoint and hitting Direct/Enter/Enter; and then watch the pathway change on #1 430). Aren’t these 430’s fantabulous!

Tom, Bob, thanks a lot to both of you. I’ll try out both methods.

Timm,

There’s another possibility. Here is what I do:

First, I set the Garmins so that #1 automatically crossfills to #2, but not the other way around.

I’ve changed the fields displayed in the FPL pages of the two 430’s (MENU/Change Fields). The default is DTK and ETE – I set #1 to display DTK and DIS, and #2 to ETE and ETA. Now, between the two, I can see anything I want.

I usually have the #2 FPL page open all the time, so that I can see my ETA at each waypoint as well as the destination.

Bob,

Do you have the number 2 Garmin set to automatically crossfill to the number 1 at the same time the number 1 autocrosses to #2?

Bob, Stuart,

I prefer to have the automatic crossfill from '1 to #2, but not from 2 to #1. Here my reason: Sometimes you have to fly something like a VORDME, LOCDME, or an ADT approach. A DME waypoint not necessarily has something to do with your flight plane; the DME may be a couple of miles away. So you need to use the Direct To function of the #2 Garmin to display the DME distance. If you do this and have automatic crosfill from #2 to #2, you immediately loose your flightplan in #1. Imagine IMC and fiddling around to get the FPL "repaired ". So, as a rule, I keep my #2 “idiot safe” by not automatically crossfilling to #1. If I want to crossfill manually, its only 2 clicks to do.

I tried out Mike’s idea of changing the diplayed data in the #2 FPL, that’s great!

Thanks a lot to all of you.
