Recently, when I try to reply to forum posts or dm’s by email, they are rejected. Did something change that I need to update on my end?
Dear Members,
We are writing to inform you that we have recently disabled this email reply feature following the discovery of a security and privacy vulnerability. We take the protection of your data and the integrity of our platform very seriously, and this action was taken to ensure your safety.
We sincerely apologize for the lack of prior notification regarding this change. We understand that this may have caused inconvenience, and we regret not communicating this decision to you sooner.
Our internal review indicates that this feature was utilized by a limited number of users. Furthermore, based on our current assessment, this feature is likely to be permanently deprecated in the near future as we focus on enhancing the security and privacy of our core services.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in our community.
Andy,
Gordon posted about this while we were in Janesville.
There were some security issues, along with some major formatting issues that required us to disable that feature.
I look away from the forum for a single day and look what happens! Oh well, learn something new every day.
Andy: in the email notifications you receive regarding watched forum topics or private messages, there will be a link that will take you directly to the topic or message. One click on that link will take you via the Discourse app or web browser directly to the point where you can respond. You’ll have all of the message/post editing, tools and advantages and it’s still pretty darn convenient as opposed to having to go onto the site and wander around and find these things.
I have that I have to log in when using this method. At least from my phone. Now I just wait til I get to my computer to write.
I realize I maybe in the minority.
If you use the Discourse app, once logged in you’ll stay logged in and the link will take you directly to the referenced topic or PM.
Thanks Gordon,
I’ve had to submit to my own short comings. I stick to using my desktop or iPad on Safari to read/reply to the forum.
