ARNAV engine monitoring - no STC!

I have ordered the ARNAV engine monitoring package for N84MR.

In an email from my Authorized Cirrus Service Center, I learned the following:

“This unit is NOT STC’d for the SR20 therefore we will need to obtain a field approval from the FAA. This means that we need to submit the paperwork to them well in advance of your appointment. As soon as the kit gets here, I will draft the proper paperwork and submit it to the FAA.”

A question for others who have ordered this: Is this in line with what you’ve heard, too?

Pricing: One person I know is paying a flat rate of $5,400 for the kit and installation. I am opting to pay for the kit ($4,495) and take my chances with installation time being about what is estimated - 12 hours, which will bring my installed cost to $5,100.

Same question… Is this in line with your experience?

Mike,

The http://www.arnav.com/prengview.htm Arnav web site describing the product notes that it must be installed with Form-337 Field Approval, and that Arnav is “seeking” STC approval. So I think what you’ve been told is correct, that it will have to be done under Form 337, at least for now.
