I just came across these statistics of 1st qtr deliveries. Seems that 1st qtr this year is worse than 1st qtr last year with1 l less small aircraft sold. . . but take a look a the sales drop for the heavy metal

According to GAMA, Cirrus shipped 90 planes in Q1 2003. While up from 60 in Q1 2002, it is down from the last 3 quarters of the year.
Breaks down to 36 SR20s and 54 SR22s. Cessna shipped the most of any single type with 67 172Ss. The SR20 and 22 were the 2nd and 3rd most sold.
Any thought that perhaps Q1 is a day or two shorter due to February being a short month or just fewer business days?

What is really interesting to note is that Cirrus Design is the #2 SE piston aircraft manufacturer with over 1/3rd of the market. Those are impressive facts.
Piper, #3, had considerably less than half of Cirrus’s sales with a 40+ year history and 5 different models, two of which are turbocharged, and three of which are retracts. This seems to say a lot for what the market thinks of these new plastic airplanes.
American Champion was 4th with 13 deliveries.
Lancair had 5 sales. Glad to see them up and running again.
Diamond/Diamona was not on the survey.?.
It was also interesting to see that Piston GA deliveries in the US were actually up in the first quarter, the only segment that showed an increase. I doubt this will last, but it is very impressive an must make quite a few eyeballs in various corporate boardrooms take notice (albeit for different reasons).

Marty,
I suspect Diamond wasn’t included because their plant is in beautiful http://www.londontourism.ca/London, Ontario, Canada, and GAMA includes only U.S.-built airplanes. Too bad — I’d like to know what their sales are like!
Cheers,
Roger
Roger,
GAMA does include foreign built GA aircraft. Socata, Piaggio, Pilatus and others are listed. Maybe they discovered that Diamond doesn’t make real airplane? I suspect that there are a lot of politics involved with GAMA. Diamond has not been listed for the last 3 years in any of their published reports.
Take note of who isn’t a member, our favorite manufacturer.
Stuart,
I stand corrected! (But at least I got to put a plug in for London.)
It is curious that Diamond isn’t on the list, especially since they have indeed been producing and delivering aircraft… so why would GAMA leave them off this list?
Cheers,
Roger

Perhaps they are not a member? Or perhaps they just don’t report? Curiouser and curiouser.
