XM SAT RADIO

I am waiting for my SR22 to deliver in January.

I would like to put SAT radio in the plane,

Is there a place to mount an FAA PMA unit in the plane on a permanente basis?

If not do you need to use an automobile version?

Has anyone done either? Like to know my best option.

John…
First, welcome to COPA! You’re about to take a drink from a firehose… [;)]
I’m not aware of any FAA PMA’d XM radio unit - but there might be.
I suggest you use the Search button at the top of this page to look for XM - you should get a LOT of hits. The topic has been discussed extensively in the last few weeks on the Members Discussion forum.

Among the more salient points:

  • Yes, we use a car version.

  • There are two popular types - the SkyFi, and the Roady. There are pros and cons to each; in particular, the Roady will interfere with your GPS reception unless you take steps to avoid it. But it’s smaller and has other redeeming features, so you may want it anyway.

Do that search… Oh, in case nobody told you… you need to set aside five or six hours per night from now on, just to keep up with these forums. OK, I’m kidding… but you will be amazed at how addictive they are…

And… congrats on your new '22 - hope you have a great delivery experience, and lots of fun and safe flying.

  • Mike.
