website speed

still crawling…on the verge of not usable…wonder why?

For what it’s worth, I’m on the west coast (if that matters) and it’s lighting fast for me w/ SBC DSL…cs

On my Mac G4 running Safari over BellSouth DSL it’s VERY fast.

Maybe 1 or 2 seconds (typical) to open a thread.

I’s fine here in Australia - while it could be a little faster (mainly on the “Main Index” or the opening page of the Member’s forum) it’s definitely very usable.

try to disable scripting. If you are using IE you can do this by clicking Tools, Internet Options, Security,Custom Level, then scroll down to Scripting and choose either Disable or Prompt. One of my computers at work was very slow whenever I was surfing the COPA site and I did the above and it worked.

PS – the downside of doing this is, in order to open an attachment you would need to right click it and press “open in another window”

Also do a virus scan on your computer. There are trojan horse style viruses out there. Check out mcafee.com for the latest anti virus software.

if you stop using kazaa to download porn at the same time, you’ll get much better performance…

You mean KaZaa has porn too? See ya guys.

Here’s post from xyzebra from earlier this year…

sounds like a personal problem, Zebra:

"this website crawls…someone should take a look at upgrading capacity…

very, very, slow paced site…"

whoops…i meant if i stopped using kazaa to download porn it would be faster (for me). gotta get this stuff straight! :()

FWIW I was having lots of trouble with the site, and it cleared up when I removed Norton Internet Security 2001. I suspect there might have been some scripts being blocked that were impacting performance.

hmmmmmm…

let’s see…
My cable modem averages 1.5 mbps…

I visit on average 40-50 sites a day…
with almost perfect performance…

this website crawls…don’t know if it is east coast…
or what the problem is…
but seriously doubt I am the only one who notices that web pages take long periods of time to load when they should take seconds…

I guess I am alergic to this site…
since every one else has “remarkable” performance here…

LOL…
PS…there is a problem with this website.

thanks I’ll look into that…

maybe it is just the public forum…

I just now recalled that when I finally became a COPA member the website sped up tremendously [;)]

Don’t know if that will help but I guess you can give it a try. I use IE 6.0 with scripting enabled and I have no problems with speed. I am an east coaster with a cable modem as well. Of course, I am in COPA[:)]. Maybe it’s a problem with your internet server, but I don’t see why you only see slow downloads from this site.

if you pay the $50 and register, your speed will double.

In all seriousness, joining COPA won’t make the site any faster. I say this just because I don’t want xyzebra to pay his/her $50 and then wonder why the site is the same speed.

The public area shouldn’t be any slower than the member’s site either.

I am aware of a few problems which are slowing the site a little more than it needs to be (thanks to Clyde and some others) but it shouldn’t be anywhere near the glacial speeds that xyzebra is reporting. It doesn’t seem too bad for me either (another east coast cable modem user).

Clarification added later: When I said “thanks to Clyde and some others”, I meant thanks for helping me find what the bottlenecks are. I wasn’t saying “thanks for making it slow”!
