Starting in Cold Weather

Hey, Bagger, I’d love to have the 'chute. Never said otherwise. But as pilots we know its limitations. “Civilians” don’t so they feel far safer than they should because of it. (That’s not a bad thing, either, because they also feel far more at peril than they should without one.) Nevertheless, it’s a well established opinion on this board that “civilian confidence” is one of the prime benefits of the 'chute. Many, many comments like “my wife insisted on it” or “my friends will now fly with me” attest to that.

Anyway, it seems that no one wants a heretic in the Church of Cirrus, so I’ll go quietly. Have fun guys, the Cirrus is a great plane!

Out.

Hey Joe, don’t go away. One of the benefits of the forum is a free exchange of ideas. You have never acted like some of those who either have ulterior motives or are just crackpots. If we all sit here an preach to the choir, then what’s the point? We even tolerate Kevin Moore  (Sorry Kevin, couldn’t resist!)

Anyway, while you ‘saved’ $75K, did you really? How many hours were on your engine? Vacuum pump, alternators? Tires? How much wear has occurred to the seats and interior? Scratches on the windscreen? What condition is the paint? You get the idea. Depreciation is not just a theoretical concept. In purchase prices, it reflects actual (or perceived) loss of value, and since the market, somewhat efficiently, sets the price, this concept is evidently perceived across the entire market.

Clearly there is a price to be paid for that factory new smell. In many older models, that cost can easily be seen. In the SR2x’s, we will know if 2-5 years what it was.

In the end, “value” is what the purchaser decides it is. I am very happy for you that you like your Socata - that is the point isn’t it?

Hope to see you at some event,

Marty

(Bagger - Joes on our site because even though there are about 2,700 Socata registered in the US, Last I heard they don’t have any type clubs. Even a ‘frog flyer’ needs to do some hangar flying!)

Joe,

I agree with most everything you said, and I am a current position holder. I like your comments. We need diversity here.

Paul

Just imagine my poor family, who have to tolerate me 24/7. You guys are getting off easy.

David,

Jim just made the mods to my SR22. I’ll let you know how things work out as soon as I get 925PW back from a few upgrades that Jim and the folks at Airways are completing (Arnav monitoring, Rief Preheater, oil/air separator, and the new prime ports).
