Parachute

Doea anyone know the cost of the 600 hr parachute inspection requirement. I believe it is a requirement from an AD. Thanking you in advance.

Al

It isn’t a requirement. Another one of those non-facts that the Cessna boys are sharing. [;)]

I have not heard of this AD. I do believe that the original chutes have a 10 yr. repack/TBO requirement and the “squibs,” an integral par t of the system somewhat less. As far as I know, no airplanes are old enough to have had to experience these costs.

Joe may and probably does know better.

As far as the cost, I think a similar comparable would be the cost of replacing it after deployment, which would undoubtably be considerably higher. If anyone uses a shop that has repaired a post CAPS activation A/C, please inquire. It would be an interseting fact to know.

No such requirement

You are correct, I guess the discussion should have been about line cutters. There is a post below that discusses a 600hr requiement, but they are talking about the 22, I am only assuming that applies to the 20 as well?

Al

Line cutters are a 6 year item…

Thanks. I am trying to educate myself on these becuase I have flown one and my airplane is sold and want a 20. Is there anywhere I can go to get the list of items like line cutter, mags, life limited parts etc. so I can get all the information at once and correct to help me understand the cost of buying the SR20. Thanking you in advance.

Yes. Join COPA. The Members’ Forum is rich with just the information you seek, and it is both educational and very entertaining. For me, it’s the most value-laden $50 that I spend in aviation. Whether you’re considering a '20 or '22, it is a major purchase decision and you will recoup the membership fee many times over in information.

I would like to re-raise this question. At this point, there are atleast 100 Cirrus aircraft that are either operating without having had the repack done or are past due on the repack and rocket motor replacement. I’m getting very vaque responses from the certified Cirrus repair station in my area about the cost involved. The only one they have done so far was for one that was deployed and the chute with the exchange alone was $20,000.00. That’s not taking into account the body work they will have to do to repair the aircraft from removal of the chute. There’s also the rocket replacement due as well about the same time. Has anyone got any ideas on the total cost involved for each of these and/or if Cirrus plans to do anything to keep the cost down with an inspection or SB that would eliminate the need for the repack of the chute and replacement of the rocket?
