Using the GNS430 simulator I have been puzzled by the VLOC operation. When selecting VLOC mode and tuning in a nearby VOR, one would expect the CDI to center when you place the course needle (with th OBS knob) on the radial the plane is on, and show a deviation if the plane is on some other radial from where the OBS set. What I get is a CDI that centers on 000 and 180 no matter where the plane is. Is there something I am missing about how to tune a VOR, or is there a bug in the simulator? Shouldn’t this work irrespective of whether there is a current waypoint established in the GPS?
Thanks for any help.

Mick,
FWIW, I verified that it behaves as you describe on my sim, too. Now I’m curious as well.

I emailed Garmin and got a prompt response:
Thank you Mick,
I guess you figured out by now the VOR receiver in the simulator is non functioning. I guess the software guys could not think of a clever way to fake it. The automatic course capture works if you want to experiment with it but the localizer and glide slope function will remain flagged.
Thank you and best Regards,

Mick,
Thanks - at least it makes sense.
