Forgive me if this is posted here somewhere, but was doing some avionics trouble-shooting on my 260SE at Santa Maria when the guys at Avionics West told me Garmin would be rolling out it’s real-time wx option for interface with its 430/530 in the next 8-12 months. Cost is 3,500 list. For gizmo and antenna
This is true. Went to the Garmin seminar at VNY Wednesday night. The service is provided by http://www.echoflight.comEcho Flight via satellite feed, which is seemingly much better than the ground station-based http://www.arnav.com/aanstat.htmARNAV network. The box is $3,500 and the service is $40/month.
It is really nice the way the weather maps superimpose over the nav map displays. You can select how dense the overlay is displayed. And you can of course get text WX too. You can get wx for any location, not just where you happen to be. Oh, and you can get email over the system. (Great - SPAM in my GPS.)
I do not know whether the weather data will also be avilable for simultaneous display on the ARNAV. That certainly would be preferred.

Hi Gordon,
I was also at the VNY seminar. It was informative about the available and new boxes from Garmin. The wx transcever will be an awsome unit to add to an SRxx. I have no idea what we’ll be using to type any e-mail though? Any idea?
The next step will be (I guess) is a flight simulator for IFR flights during our otherwise boring, blue sky, fully coupled flight, just so we can have some fun, while we’re flying. Hopefully Garmin will come out with some black boxes to simulate IFR flight training on the ARNAV, aerial dogfights, where we can participate, we could send and receive e-mails from Boeings passing above us. I can see a problem: no panel space for the printer!

… the answer to both is Bluetooth
have a wireless keyboard on your lap and a wireless printer on the backseat
Have a great airborne internet day.
