Yes this is a “Founders by Referral” car. With the original referral program, you got the right to buy a fully loaded Model X for the price of a Signature Model X (~$35k in savings) and jump the waiting list if you got 10 people to buy the Model S.
I ‘liked’ your descriptive and entertaining video Marcus. But your successful diversion (however temporary) from the ever-lurking Fifty Shades of Galt eruption back to the original thread topic deserves special kudos. Something to learn here.
Thank you!
Let me lurch it back off track for you.
Who is Galt and why does he need so many sunglasses? <shrugs, smugly>
So Porsche has revealed it’s likely entry into the electric car world, and wow! The Porsche has 2 motors, it’s fast as a Porsche, looks awesome and brings some interesting tech to the discussion.
I’m reminded of Betamax in a way. There’s a format war developing in the electric car space, as Porsche has declared their 800 volt standard. Turns out that the 800 Volt spec not only allows thinner cables (think lighter) but also allows for a 250 mile charge in 15 minutes! I think Gordon has a term… oh yeah - “game changer”. The Porsche also charges inductively in your garage, so no need to plug in at home. Max range is 300 miles.
The Porsche can use the existing infrastructure of relatively slow chargers as well as those with 800 volts available. Makes me wonder which other major manufacturers will follow suit and go to 800.
Finally, the tech inside is fantastic. Holographic gauges that adjust parallax for wherever your head moves, and hand gestures for many controls. They’ve based their 4 door (suicide rear door) design on the 911 platform, but the styling is basically a very futuristic, tasteful take on the Panamera. I want one!

I saw it at the Frankfurt auto show. It looks even better in person then the pictures. Here are just a few on the many I took.
Wow I say that all the time. I am also a very small bus owner 41 years. 5 employees sure easier to take care of than a hole country but sure wish they could quit supporting the world until we get balanced out. Or we will not be able to help anyone charity begins at home. Don
Hey John. Time to think about that Tesla. The Supercharger at 800 Brevard Road in Asheville,NC has been open for some time now. Enjoy your car [:D]
It was not on the maps I was looking at. Darn, now I will have to think about one. Problem is that it would be 40 miles from my Condo and I only have 110 volts in the carport.

110v at home is going to be painful. How much do you drive?
If you drive 40 miles per day, it will take 12 hrs (so overnight) to recharge on 110v. Same time on 220v is 1:21.
Less than 10,000 a year. Real challenge is the area around Burnsville, NC does not have electric infrastructure yet.
Mostly use the gas golf cart on the property. Mountain Air Country Club.
Wish there were more charging stations on the 26 to 81 to 66 corridor from DC to Asheville. 450 miles door to door. Would love to use the autopilot on that road. All freeway and well marked. Just tons of trucks.
John,
Isn’t a trip like that made for an airplane?! [*-)]
Marcus,
I just went there an looked as well. Those where not there the last time I looked. Would be easy to stop half way and recharge. How long does it take to charge at a superstation?
Yes, Joe it was a great flight in an airplane. Not the best landing however.
Here is some good data on charging times

This website https://evtripplanner.com plans the trip for you.
Just add a 240V panel and a dedicated line, John. You’ll appreciate the engineering of the high-powered wall charger and the cost is incidental–sort of the automotive equivalent of a single headset upgrade!
Taking a Tesla on a 450 mile road trip is like flying a 172 accross the country. Yeah you can do it and it’s an adventure and all but there are way more efficient ways to get the mission done. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Tesla and with 21,000 miles on it, I couldn’t be happie. However this is not the car for longer trips unless you like stopping every 90 minutes for 30 minutes or don’t mind driving 60 mph to 65 mph.
I’ll second the vote for putting in a dryer outlet. It usually is dirt cheap and makes a world of difference in charging times.
Think I will wait for the March Announcement of the Model 3 and its Crossover sibling.
