Air conditioning

just got porta chill (not using in plane) …

but tested it out and it works well…

looks like depending on ice used 1/2 hour to 1 hour of COLD AIR…

recommend this highly…plugs into cigarette lighter…

Please let us know about your in-plane experiences. I’ve been considering purchasing one too, but I’m worried about the hassle of using it.

Questions I personally have include:

  1. How much space in the back seat does it take up?

  2. How bad is the mess when the ice has melted?

  3. How easy is it to pull it in and out of the back seat?

  4. Is the chilled airflow effective? Is it merely taking off the edge, or is it really good?

Like all other cirri owners, I’ve taken to doing all of my taxiing with a door open.

In terms of weight, I’d swap CAPs for factory AC any day. Do others feel the same? Maybe Cirrus will give us a choice in future models.

Actually, both URLs work fine.

But consider possible side benefit: Looks like it could be used in lieu of a relief tube! (Cold air might induce shrinkage, however.)

I used it today extensively (in a truck)

the unit is a cooler quite small and when ice melts it collects in cooler…no mess…

airflow is great for about 20 minutes…unless you use preformed ice blocks which was too much trouble for me today…then it goes supposedly for about 1 hour…slightly less cool…

(Today 95+ degrees…)

overall very impressed with the design and ease of use…very cold airflow and very strong airflow…only negative would be the duration…

but overall, real nice.

20 minutes and you should be at altitude in cooler air.

As they say: Different strokes for different folks.

I personally prefer to be cool on the way down with the Chute !!!

With A/C on it is not cool on the way down, straight down that is…

Be happy you have a Cirrus and enjoy a great day ahead or down…

Put me down for the chute. Will use a/c maybe 2 weeks per year but on the other had would have chute ready to go 52 weeks a year!..Ed

Rich, I live in Florida and it is HOT all the time, but my plans to add A/C changed when I got the Cirrus. A ton of air blows in when taxing with the doors open. In a Cirrus, you don’t need to close them untill takeoff. I guess it is the way the doors are designed, but A/C is just not needed in my opinion. Why screw up a great luggage compartment?
