According to AOPA --SR20 gross weight increase in May

A small blurb on the SR22 on the AOPA members site. They mentioned that Cirrus was expecting a 100lb gross weight increase for the SR20 in May.

Here’s an exact quote: “Cirrus hopes to have a 100-pound max gross weight increase for SR20s in May, giving it a 3,000-pound max weight.” I hope they meet this expectation. Slim-Fast for my family is not working very well to reduce payload.

Below is a quote from Ian Bentley of Cirrus, from his February email to position holders.

"During the SR20 development and certification program there were several items in the early specifications that were not achieved. In the SR20 finally offered there was no rudder trim, sea level rate of climb was reduced and, most significant in the minds of many customers, a higher aircraft empty weight than anticipated. During SR22 development we studied the potential for increasing the ‘maximum gross weight’ of the SR20 to give more ‘useful load’ and reviewed this both from an engineering, supplier and performance point of view.

We have addressed the engineering and supplier concerns and expect to be building SR20 aircraft with a maximum gross weight of 3000lbs (an increase of 100lbs) during the second quarter. We also expect to offer, soon after that, a kit to retrofit this change to all previously delivered SR20 aircraft. We expect this to be little more than a visit to an Authorized Service Center.

The 3000lb number was selected since it will both maintain levels of performance and change the base ‘useful load’ to be close to 950lbs, a number that the majority of SR20 order holders have in their ‘Specification and Description.’
