Thanks;
But the question is what modifications are needed? if any?
What’s the liability of carrying 3000lbs
gross now without the placard?
I’m confused about the issue and I assume
that I should contact CIRRUS directly;
by the way, when I was on the ramp at The
Cirrus Factory; F-16 's were circling around
the field doing military stlye approaches;
very impressive sales technique

Rich,
The last I heard (at the AOPA Fly-In June 2) the gross weight increase will be very low cost. “Basically” just some paperwork changes. I don’t know if “basically” might leave enough wiggle room to imple some very minor airframe changes are required, but in either case it is supposed to be very cheap. Maybe just the time for the A&Ps to update the POH, placards, etc.
I once heard “Mid-June” for the increase but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t get it through until closer to when the next batch of SR20s gets built (i.e. August time frame).

Although I have heard anecdotal evidence of the ability of SR20s to haul more than 2900 lbs gross weight with no problem, I think the liability of flying above the current maximum gross weight of the aircraft could be quite high. Not sure if “but it’s supposed to increase any day now” will hold much water with the NTSB or your insurance company!
