Last year it was $ 450.00. this time is $ 815.00?!!
I have the mail in service for $450. The only reason it was $450 (the normal price was $700+) was that I ordered the Skybound service, but it was not available so they gave me the mail for the price of the Skybound. At some point I suspect they will tell me it is time to buy the data writer and I will eventually start using the downloads.
Art’s right about the pricing. Jepp called me about a month ago to sell me Skybound II; Until I converted, they were willing to give me the mail service at the Skybound price (which will now work with Win2000).
Two weeks ago when I called to subscribe for the Skybound II service, they informed me it is not yet available, speculating as late as September when they get the operating system bugs out. Does anyone have an operating Skybound II now?
They suggested that you could apply the remaining prorated amount from the mail service to the purchase of Skybound.
I bought the SB2 at Osh. Had installed it in my pc, but had not converted my account yet from Classic to SB. So I cannot comment on how it works, but it was easy to install. THEN…
Got a unsolicited call from Jepp telling me that they were recalling the SB2 product and gave me a RMA to return mine.
Person did not know what was wrong (just said they were defective), or was not letting on. But I suspect that your delay is associated with this recall. I have not yet received the replacement, although I got a shipping notice saying it shipped early this week.
I thought Jepp was very proactive and cooperative.
How does Skybound II know how many cards you are “allowed” to update? The dual Garmin subscription would be for two data cards. What if you tried to update 3 data cards or made a mistake on one and tried to do it over again?

Brian,
When I did my first (and only, so far) download on Skybound II, it (the system) said I was allowed 10 downloads (even their techie thought that high). Anyway, after dual downloads it says I have 8. In a few days I’ll be doing the next cycle so we’ll see what happens. So far, my experience with Jeppesen is very good. If I screw up they help to fix it. When my initial cards expired and they repeatedly delayed the issue of Skybound II, they sent me two sets of free replacement cards for the next two cycles which I subsequently returned.

I am about to start this process. Just got the Skybound last week and loaded the software. How soon before the next cycle, in this case September 5, will the new data be available to download? In the mail version, I always received the cards about 5-6 days before expiration of the old ones.
Brian
Just spoke with “Derek” who said the next cycle should be ready for download about a week before the start date. So the 9/5 cycle should be available now.
Richard
As I understand it, if you have a dual subscription you are allowed to update two cards SUCCESSFULLY and no more. If you make a mistake then you won’t get the message that your download was successful and therefore you can try again and agian as many times as you want until you get it right.
How soon before the next cycle, in this case September 5, will the new data be available to download?
Cycle Effective dates Download Date
Brian,
I know about this one – mostly because I found some bugs that Jepp (promptly) fixed. You can find the “Cycle Effectivity Dates” by going to the HELP pulldown menu of the Skybound II window after you log on. However, since they list them until December 23rd, 2020, I’ve listed them below. If you drop me an email in 17 1/2 years, I’ll post an update. [:)]
Raj:
Now that conflicts with what Richard has said when he was given up to 10 downloads. I guess Jeppesen is still sorting this out. Since the new updates are due, I will give a progress report next week when i try it.
Brian
Brian,
With Skybound II, downloading and updating takes place in a single step as opposed to the previous version. You can only download and update successfully the number of cards depending on the level of subscription. If you are allowed to download as many times as you like, what prevents someone from updating more than what they have legitimately subscribed for. I know this for a fact because when I tried to update my second card, I was denied the update even though I had a dual subs. When I called Jeppesen they had me for single sub by mistake and when he changed my status I was able to proceed and update my second card successfylly. This all make sense to me.
Raj.
