I am all for a West Coast fly-in as I live in Southern California. I will travel to a “local” fly-in. (Not sure what “local” means.) Chris… I plan on visting you in Santa Monica after you get your plane!!
Count me in for a west coast fly-in. I’m based in Seattle through next spring, would gladly go to the Bay Area or L.A. to see a flock of Cirruses.

There should be some other plural term than “flock.” You know, “a pride of lions,” “a covey of quails,” “an exaltation of larks.” It shouldn’t be “a composite of Cirruses” or “a BRS of Cirruses.” Maybe “an elegance of Cirruses”? Who has a good idea.

Cirruses? Or Cirri?

I must say this was not my original idea…it started on the other web site. Anyway, I say we wait until Chris gets his plane in Santa Monica. (Late January?) I will help organize the event. Maybe the middle of February?

you should probably check with the grand daddy of the cirrus tribe to see what he wants to call the gang! OH MASTER WALT (PLANE #1 FOR YOU NEW PEOPLE) WHAT SHALL WE CALL MORE THAN ONE CIRRUS!
I will also want to show up as a wistful, fawning wannabe. Tina & I can now arrive in semi-class at least: our flying club just got a brand-new Cessna 172SP on the line. Hey, we can all stand around and draw meticulously detailed, unfavorable comparisons.
How about “gaggle” of cirruses/cirri? Unfortunately there will be so few airplanes that the fly-in forecast will only be for “scattered cirrus.” And since the warranty service has been so good for Walt, I suspect there won’t be a single “broken cirrus” among them.
Perhaps the owners should be referred to as “cirroids?”
Say goodnight, Gracie…

I’ve long felt that linguistic ingenuity should be called upon only when current constructs are deficient. Cirrus clounds are typically seen in a band formation. Ergo, a band of cirri (the correct plural for the cloud).

PS - Who would’a thunk I’d find myself engaged in an etymological discussion with the redoubtable Jim Fallows. I suppose I’ve come a long way, baby
WHAT SHALL WE CALL MORE THAN ONE CIRRUS!
I’ll bite … someone said that when we have a fly in, as Chris and I did on Nantucket earlier this year, it was a “serious Cirrus sightings of a couple of Cirrae”! People that fly them could be called a member of the Serious Cirrus Society. Enough already.
As fate would have it, this Cirrus driver is going to Southern California tomorrow, Friday 12/17. We may go to Montgomery Field near San Diego in the morning and return from Cable Upland to Monterey in the afternoon. We plan to depart from Cable about 3PM. The Montgomery stop is still tentative. If anyone wants us to stop on the way down drop me an email.

I hope the Serious Cirrus Society becomes a reality for a lot of us! I do like your embellishment of my words!!!

Bernie, FORGIVE ME. I am getting old and forgetful. I was so taken with YOUR description I used shamelessly. I just couldn’t remember from whom I got it or I would have given due credit!

I started to mention the saying myself – but I figured you’d mention it. And when Walt Conley Talks EVERYONE LISTENS!!! Kinda like EF Hutton!!!
I think Sanjay S’s “band” is the mot juste, the collective noun we’re looking for. “A band of Cirri brightened the sky.”
Of course, there’s still a little weirdness to “Cirri,” and “Cirruses” is just ugly. Maybe we can get around this awkwardness by declaring that “Cirrus,” like “fish” or “sheep,” can be its own plural. “A band of Cirrus drew onlookers to the fly-in.” Or we could evade the whole issue. “A band of SR20s alit at Boeing Field.”
As this and other notes may imply, I have in fact put down my deposit. When my kids get kicked out of college for non-payment – hey, adversity is good for character development. Jim Fallows

Nice one Jim. Just goes to show the power of an extended test flight
What position number did you get?
What position number did you get?
Quite a ways off. Let’s just say, the skies will be dark with bands of Cirri before I join the fleet.
