The other side

Hi Roger,

I’ve been travelling all week. Where do you get those great pictures? How do you slip in those pictures on this post? If your into 50’s cars, I’ll send you some pictures of the 54 Ford and the 56 Chevy convertible that I customized. I could always email them to you.

Thanks,

Walt N224AZ

Sorry, but the facts don’t support what you’re saying. I’ve visited your site a few times, and have seen numerous disparaging comments about Cirrus planes and their owners.

I don’t have any problem sharing information, warts and all, as along as it’s used constructively. It hasn’t been.

Andy

Of the more than 1300 posts on the collective Lancair Forums, the number which bash Cirrus are/were about 15, and these came from two people.

There are a number which discuss the differences between the planes – and surprise – on the Lancair site those tend to favor Lancair. Does that mean it is Cirrus bashing?

There are also a few which reprise things posted here by Cirrus’ owners about their squawks – and express concerns about it – which I assume they are entitled to express. Especially as we are hoping to learn from all of your mistakes.

And of the current active threads on our site , which is 41, the only one which has some bashing is the Parachute Accident thread, which has bashing posted by one individual - a Cirrus owner. This thread was closed when it became clear the conversation was going afield from the facts.

Edited to add: I myself was guilty of posting something about Cirrus’ wings not being removeable, which when I found out I had the wrong information I retracted in a reply. So that may have counted as unintential bashing

I hope all of you will come check us out and decide:

also edited to add a little levity: Besides, we all know Lancairs is great and Cirrus is bad, and I’m rubber and your glue, and whatever you post bounces off of me and sticks to you

Dean, I tried to send you the following e-mail, and somehow it didn’t get through:

Dean, for what it’s worth, I don’t have an interest in igniting an altercation between Lancair owners and Cirrus owners. After I replied to your post where you characterized mine as being “incredibly short-sighted,” I read through your other posts and thought they made very good points.

I have read virtually every post in recent history on the Cirrus site, and can’t recollect a disparaging comment about Lancair or its owners. As I said in my post, I feel, quite honestly, that the opposite has not been true of the Lancair comments about Cirrus. Maybe I read some before they were shut down (which I respect you for doing if they went overboard), but I’m surprised that you would feel that there haven’t been those kind of comments posted.

All said, my plan is to keep my comments about Lancair constructive. For what it’s worth, I think it’s a great plane and if it weren’t out of my price range, I would have possibly purchased one instead of my SR20.

Sincerely,
Andy Bresler

Gee, that’s about the same percentage of folks on our own BBs that bash Cirrus aircraft!
“There are a number which discuss the differences between the planes – and surprise – on the Lancair site those tend to favor Lancair. Does that mean it is Cirrus bashing?”
And Viva la Diference! Competition is a great thing!
“There are also a few which reprise things posted here by Cirrus’ owners about their squawks – and express concerns about it – which I assume they are entitled to express. Especially as we are hoping to learn from all of your mistakes.”
Let’s hope we all learn from each others’ mistakes. They say we learn best from our mistakes, but I’ve always felt it is a lot less painful or costly to learn from someone eles’s.

I too encourage everyone to check out their site. Dean and Norm have put in a lot of effort to create a great site. Like our respective planes - different not better or worse. (Of course, like our planes, our site is better.)

Marty

I have to agree with Dean; most of the bashing of Cirrus’s on the Lancair site came from Cirrus owners with whom we are very familiar on this site!

I was editing my post while you were posting to add a little humor to it.

Didn’t mean to be to imflammatory with lang. of first post. Joys of the WWW and all.

Former SR20/22 position holder now Lancair 400 #153. "
So Dean has made 3 mistakes: First he sold his Cirrus order. Then, he purchased a Lancair, and now he has to edit his post. I bet you made money on your Cirrus contract!!!

Marty

Ouch, Marty! Interestingly enough I broke even on the Cirrus. And all I had to pay for getting a Lancair was… 1 1/2 years… or is it 2… or is it 2 1/2FYI – Set up a poll over on your other board just for you.
