Starlink Mini - Guide for Cirrus and other General Aviation users

If you want to be able to run it from a battery up front (basically your center console area), comfortably along the carpet/sides where it’s neatly in place you’re going to need a minimum 14 ft cord. Most of the SL specific ones which are say 15+ feet often only work with PD USB C chargers (ie: wall warts) and tend to have mixed (often failed) results using them with battery packs.

The known/trusted solution for runs of this length is any high quality 100w rated (or you can get the 240w commonly) USB-C cables such as Anker, Ugreen or another decent brand… Along with a 20V USB-C to DC adapter (make sure you get a 20v and not the default 12v or it won’t work).

Cables are by far the biggest cause for frustrations/failures of getting SL to work properly so while this solution has two parts to it, it’s the rock solid one that just imply works vs. trying and testing half a dozen Amazon cables to find one that actually operates right.

FWIW I bought official Starlink cigarette lighter plug. It’s simply a usb-c plug. Seems to work fine so far connected to the usb-c on an Anker.

Now this…

PRICE INCREASE : Well - It was fun.. Received this email today

Effective immediately, the maximum supported in-motion speed for Roam and Priority plans is 100 mph (160 km/h, 87 knots).

We know many customers rely on Starlink in fast moving vehicles and in remote environments, and we want to make sure you have the right plan to stay connected.

Starlink has designed two new plans that may better suit your needs: Aviation 300MPH and 450MPH.

It’s more than just a price increase for what is now a more limited data plan. To switch to the Aviation plan, you have to go through customer service and submit identity verification, including a copy of your passport. That is a significant change from a typical subscription upgrade. I have to assume this additional verification is intended to address national security concerns, as it appears to directly link your identity to a specific Starlink unit. At these price points, many users will likely be priced out of the market, and I would not be surprised to see a large number of soon to be unused Starlink Minis show up on Ebay.

Holy crap, I just went through all the time and money and finally was ready to start using this thing and now they do this. Brutal.

So what you’re saying is… it’s Dave’s fault!

Does this still work for you ? Will it work on a g6?

Not Kevin - but I do have this same power plug and yes, it will work on any generation. When you say on a G6, note it will NOT work with the built-in lighter jack on any Cirrus (that lacks amperage). It will however work if you have a Lonestar (or other) lighter jack installed, typically on the back wall of the airplane.
