Starlink Anker C300

Hey all, how do you guys tie down your battery? It’s pretty bulky so I don’t want it to fall or hit something or someone, all of the Starlink mounts incorporate a box, but only for the really small chargers like the 737.

Thanks!

My solution is an adjustable bungee cord which routes securely through the cup holder frame beneath the rear passenger seat.

You can see pictures and the write up of it here: https://forum.cirruspilots.org/t/starlink-mini-guide-for-cirrus-and-other-general-aviation-users/283319/227?u=bppilot

Do you recommend using a power bank, or wiring up a 28v cigarette lighter? Still within the return window, just worried about some battery fire or something along the lines of that.

I went with upgrading the old 12v 3amp cigarette lighter to a 28v 5amp and it’s been working perfectly with my Mini.

Long term I believe the lighter plug is the best solution. It’s just a set and forget it type of deal not ever needing to mess with recharging, etc. That said, the battery back has a ton of juice, you’re looking at 14 hours on a charge and even flying from Florida to California I don’t charge mine - lasts that whole run with extra power to spare. The battery solution is a quick easy now solution without the need to have a whole wiring project completed.

If this was a lithium ion battery I’d have the same concern. However with this unit, it’s a much safer LiFoPo4 which shifts it into the reasonable risk assessment for me - each pilot needs to make their own decision however. The real biggie with battery fires is they typically seem to break out when devices are being actively charged, thereby I never, ever charge (nor pass though) power to my battery pack in the plane - just not worth the added risk IMO.
